For daily use systems you usually see systems that use a 4ch amp that does about 60-100 w plus a mono amp with 300 up to 1200watts. This normally give you a nice balanced sound with some interesting building solution. The choice at that stage depends on what type of music you normally listen to and how Mitch you want to spend. Regarding to the sub specifically, the box plays a very important rool on how it will sound and how deep it can go.
