Orion amp only goes into protect when RCAs are plugged in?

Hey guys,

I have this Orion XTR 1500.1dz amp that stays in protect whenever the RCAs are connected. Doesn't matter if the speakers are disconnected or not...just the RCAs??

Anyone ever seen this issue before? Before you ask, here's what I've tried:

- A different set of RCA plugs - that didn't work. The amp still goes in to protect.
- A different amplifier (Kicker 1800.1 and one of the PPI 520.4s) - both amps work normally.
- Bypassing the crossover - That did not work. The amp still goes in to protect.
- Disconnect speaker cables and leaving the amp with just power and RCA - Same thing.
- Testing the voltage on the remote wire to make sure it is strong enough to turn the amp on - normal (14.4V)
- Making sure that the power cables are not inverted and that they are large enough. Same thing
- Making sure that the amp is set to Master and not slave.
- Adjusting the gains to minimum. Nothing

Any ideas???

Thanks!!!

Look into the source unit that those RCAs are plugged into.  If it is too high of a voltage, perhaps that is messing up the Orion.

The Orion amp may be toasted...maybe there is a short inside of it?

Just some ideas...

Have you checked to make sure the RCA connections inside are secure to the board?  This has happened before to me on a PPI back in the 90's.

I wish it were the Orion amp itself...but this is the second amp that I got brand new and same thing.

So I know it's not the amp. The source is around 5V.

Crazy sorry but it doesn't help. I have gone through a checklist with the manual to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong but I am truly stumped. I have even tried other amps in the same location without changing a thing and they work flawlessly. THIS amp specifically just won't work and I don't know why.....

I appreciate you guys' help

PS: I emailed Orion, but still awaiting a response

Without the amp sitting in front of a specialist, nobody here can help you.  You've stated that you have already done, (or are unwilling to do) the troubleshooting steps necessary.  That leaves you with Orion as your only chance for help.  Talk to them.

I hope they can help you, as you paid them not just once but twice for the same problem.

Can’t remember which I hooked up first. But everything was hooked up before I turned the car on.

Keep in mind that I did this dor two separate amps
