I need a better alternator, a bigger amp and th the big 3

Recommended Posts

First off, welcome to the forum man

What vehicle are you using? Some have little nuances that have to be addressed in order to do this upgrade. For example, if I am remembering right some trucks have a sensor on their negative battery terminal or positive that you have to integrate with and cannot bypass, more than likely someone somewhere has gone through the trouble of figuring out what you have to do for that...

Now for alternators check out Singer, Mechman, US Alts, etc. Get name brand or don't bother - avoid ebay high output alts they are a waste of your money down the road. Good companies come with good warranties/servicing

For the big three/four/etc. whatever you want to call it, you are essentially upgrading factory grounds for your underhood battery.

Upgrade the following wires with at least one run of 1/0 or two runs of 4 gauge;

1. Battery negative to frame ground

2. Battery negative to engine/alternator (most high output alternators require you to run a wire for BOTH the positive and negative to the battery - only the positive requires fusing within 6 inches to a foot preferably coming out of the alternator.)

3. Battery Positive to alternator

Here is a video showing you how to do the big three upgrade:

(Optional) 4. Engine/alternator to frame ground

Here is a video that explains the big four if you want to do this optional step.

Hope this helps out

Dropping to 13v, "sometimes" is perfectly acceptable. This is 12v stuff after all..... Save your money.

A 500 watt amp, even wired wicked low, wont pull dick....

Is possible damage only likely when you dip into the 11s and 10s? Or can it happen at 12s?
