Power Wire Gauge....

Recommended Posts

I am working on a complete new setup in my PT. I will be running 3 Crunch amps for a total of 1500 watts rms, Kinetik HC1400 and HC600 paralleled together.

Can I get away with 4 gauge from front to rear, and 8 gauge to each amp?? and 4 gauge for "Big 3"???

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)

LOL, that's like a garden hose!

Guys, I'm only running 1500 watts RMS total to my whole system, everything! The chart that is pinned says 2 gauge can go up to 1500 watts, would that not be enough for me?

Cost is a huge issue and I know that the big stuff gets expensive, so I want to get only what size is needed, so I can buy the best quality wire I can get.

Would 1/0 be overkill, or a safe point for me at 1500 watts?

My thoughts are, what if you want to upgrade the system later?

Bigger is cheaper in the long run ;)

I recommend 1/0 awg wire. It may cost about 20.00 more up front but there's tons of accessories. You'll find that there's a very limited selection of blocks, fuseholders and so on out there for 2 gauge wiring. Plus the 1/0 would allow for upgrades / changes later. Which ever you go with be sure it's not CCA wire. I would only buy OFC stranded wiring.
