Ditched SPL, trying infinite baffle SQ(L) in new build??

Recommended Posts

What's up guys! Unfortunately I smoked my NSV4 18 which I had a stacked box build log going for..

seems I don't have much luck keeping SPL builds alive. So I had to scrap all that & going to try out an infinite baffle dual 18" setup. I found this shop (pssound) in the UK that made this beautiful looking system. I'll be honest, I'm trying to replicate exactly what they made.. so this isn't my creative mind at work here; just trying to copy someone else's build. Of course I'll change some stuff here n there but ultimately same same.

Amps are all Arc audio signature edition. 4000se for the 2 subs, 2300se for mids, 2075se for tweets & a Rockford 400-2 til I pick up an arc for midbass.

Front stage: 2 sets Jbl 670gti, pair Dayton 8" midbass. All active with helix DSP pro.

Subs: fi ib3v2 18's

Fi ib3, or acoustic elegance subs

 Acoustic elegance are IB beasts

I was thinking the Fi, they're half the price and just shy of double the xmax

The fi will play lower but the AE will play a wider range. From what I remember the ib3 starts going down in the high 30s

Do you think it's that much wider? Warranting spending 2x more? I did pick up a pair of dayton audio rs225p-4a 8" woofers, ideally I'm going to place them up front each with .5cft.. where there's a console; between the foot-wells of driver/passenger. Run them mono and maybe have them crossed over at 30 & 90

Why ??? I’d test the subs and see what their capabilities are in this application. From the way I’m reading your new goals, you’re looking for driver control and dynamics which you should have no problems if the enclosure is designed and built correctly.

  • 4 weeks later...

Little update, flush routed plexi around some of the pieces, threw on some LED's, some black & grey suede, and began wiring the amp rack with 2/0 & SE tech flex...

Nice Work. Hope the stage and image is as nice as the Amplifier Rack ... I’m tuned in.
