greg4510 Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 Please I need help. I have an 07 Cadillac Escalade with a c-pillar 4th order. 2 dc audio level 6 18s on 2 deaf bonce asa 8000.1. Sealed 6cu ported 12cu 240 sq port tuned up 47. It sounds amazing and deep from 28hz-42hz but the coils get really stinky really fast. Voltage only goes down to about 14.3 volts and there is no clipping. But my real question is did I make the wrong choice by putting them in a 4th order box. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you E7DFD05D-81ED-43D7-9B6D-FC2A3EC18ADB.mp4 IMG_0323.heic Quote
EricM9104 Posted June 9 Report Posted June 9 Have you checked with an oscilloscope to make sure the subs are getting a clean signal? Quote 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit

Is it accurate? Hook up an o-scope and verify. Quote 2015 Honda Civic LX 4dr | 110k miles | Stock 1996 GMC Yukon SLT 4dr 4wd | 260k miles | JVC Head-unit
SnowDrifter Posted June 13 Report Posted June 13 How much are the drivers moving? There's kind of a sweet spot. Box too restrictive and they won't move enough to cool. Too much and the coils will hop out of the gap and lose the inductive feedback - dropping the impedance and turning into a heater Clipping would cause it too. Signals are compounded. Just because the amp's clipping light isn't coming on doesn't mean the input signal isn't clipped - worth a check as well And I also don't want to discount a wonky signal either. To this day, I'm not sure what causes it, but something in my setup was feeding I think either a hard DC offset on my signal, or an ultra high frequency interference to my sub and it would go from room temperature to stinky coil in seconds even at low volume. It was the strangest thing.... My point is: Don't rule out a weird signal or a bad component either. damd1994 Posted August 17 Report Posted August 17 I just made a ported box for 2 dc audio level 6 18s and it also stinks, I push them hard with a deaf bonce 12.5k each though Quote
