Dual Battery Question?

Recommended Posts

i currently have a energizer battery in the front with 550 CCA and i was wondering if i purchase a kinetic battery for the back, will work in parallel. i heard you cant mix 2 differnt types of batteries and i was wondering if that is true. the battery i want to purchace is the kinetic hc1400.

2x yeah, i heard the same thing, something about the alternator charging the battery w/ the least amount of resistance to the electric current first, then, and only then, when that battery is charged, will it charge the 2nd battery. so this sems to cuz some obvious problems...

i wanted to charged my optima and kinetik hc800 togher yesterday but didn't because of what i heard about charging unidentical batteries together. i figured it would be cool and when one battery reaches full charge i'm sure it would let off charge to the next battery but i don't think it works like that.

That is not true. An Isolator would completely defeat the purpose of adding the Kinetik, you would only have access to either/or battery, and you need to run in both in paralel in order to get the reduced voltage drop. (the whole reason for runnig two batteries)

Just run them both in paralel and you will be fine, we have mixed flooded and AGM batteries on dozens of installs with no problems.

P.S. We carry the Powermaster batteries, and I bet I could beat the shipped price for that Kinetik, and you would have a better performing battery.

You can as long as it is not at too high of an amperage. If you are reffering to your yellow top and a Kinetik, they will charge at almost exactly the same rate. The only time you could have a problem, is if you had one flooded battery and one AGM battery; even then it wouldn't be that big of a deal though.

i was thinking the same thing. my optima is a 55ah and the HC800 is a 35ah. i'm sure one will charge a little quicker than the other but after a while they both will max off each other.

Dag that Kinetik is only 35ah??? The Optima will last longer with the vehicle off than the Kinetik will.
