Nightshade Posted September 1, 2008 Report Posted September 1, 2008 Sorry man I wasn't trying to confuse you at all. Just trying to help. It would be easier for me to just show you but that would be pretty hard to do since we live far apart. I would just send the subs to Rusty and let him fix em for you. That would be better than buying a new pair all together. Good luck and I hope you get it figured out. 2013 VW Jetta GLI 2.0 Turbo 1 Sundown Audio SCV2000 1 Sundown Audio X15 V2 1 XS Power D3100 Audio Control LC6i Stock Deck 146.4 sealed on the dash at 37hz 2001 Focus ZX3: RETIRED Team Sundown Audio, Team XS Power, 2 time NSPL Car 3601-Up Champion, 2 time NSPL Car Hardcore ChampionHighest NSPL Scores to date:154.3db on the dash sealed at 46hz, 156.2db in the kick at 46hz155.2db unofficial on dash at 43hz
audiofanaticz Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 yea, or pm rusty, and ask if he can ship you some new tinsel leads. Im sure he has the stuff on rolls, and ask for enough to replace both positive and negitive on both coils of both subs. Its really not hard to do. 1) carefully remove dustcap. If there is any seen glue around the dustcap and cone try cutting into it with a blade for a easy clean brake. ***dont cut deep, just enough to break the glue seal between the cone and dust cap, you dont want to cut through the cone*** 2) remove any sorts of glue under the dustcap that is holding down the wires and tinsel leads that are soldered to the coil. 3) remove the tinsels from the basket. 4) try to get a ruff estimate on the length of the tinsel leads. 5) there should be a whole in the cone that the tinsel leads go through, put the new tinsel through this hole and solder it to the small little wires that goto the coil (these wires are very small and some what brital, dont heat them up too much or they may break or cause damage to the coil). 6) solder the tinsel leads to the speaker wire connection on the baskets. 7) take a dmm and test to make sure you have a good connection on both coils of both subs. find a good strong glue to glue down the soldered tinsel leades to the cone under the dustcap. 9) glue the dustcap back onto the cone(s). Its very very simple, just takes time. I fixed a friends old cerwin vega heds like this many times becasue he was giving them too much power. If you make the new tinsel leads a bit longer the added xmax of the sub wont cause them to rip or break, but may cause the tinsel to slap if you make them too long. Altho if you get a speaker with woven tinsel leads, you will never have this kinda problem 10) order recones for the sub and pay me to come recone your subs. LOL The dd9512s I reconed are holding up strong as hell with 12,000-20,000 watts @ 155+ db
Nightshade Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 ^^^That was explained very well. I only tried to tell him how to fix the tinsels without going into the cone. I told him that it was an option to take the dust cap off, but since he was kind of hesitant to even try and fix the tinsels I didn't want to even throw something like that at him. You should see if you could get your explaination in the subwoofer section and have it pinned at the top of the page. That way if anyone else runs into this situation they can read what you've put here and attempt to fix their subs themselves instead of spending a ton of money to send them off to be fixed. Good job.

Triple FTW Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 They can be blown.. But make sure your ground wire is attached to teh body or battery...

Forevrbumpn Posted September 9, 2008 Report Posted September 9, 2008 glad Rusty hooked you up, because soldering in the middle of the lead will add weight in the middle, and cause a "jump rope effect" on the tinsel lead, and for sure cause the lead to break again really soon, I have more than enough experience in that field ;-) I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.
