Set Gains Right, Omg Xd- Wall W/4 15" Lvl2

alright so i have a ks1200.1 that does 1460wrms at 2 ohms, i cannot find where in the hell to buy them any more in the same style at mine. so i was wondering if i would be able to use a ks1000.1, which should put out roughly 1200wrms at 2 ohms. is it possible to get the same output from the ks1200.1 and the ks1000.1? my subs are 300wrms anyways so how would i go about turning down the 1200.1 to match the output of the ks1000.1?

or is it safe to run one set of subs off the ks1200.1 and the other set off the 1000.1? or will the 200-300wrms difference mess things up?

if you dont understand what i am trying to say i will try and clarify, otherwise please help.

If they're running at the same impedance (I assume they would be) then you just put a DMM on them in turn and set the gain so they both output the same voltage - it really should be the same on both so you'll have to use the lowest common denominator ie. whatever 1200w@2 works out as.

Although 200-300w wouldn't be a terrible difference, in big SPL boxes you can get massively different power on the subs due to different loading... if you decide to go this way then think carefully about how the pressure will go in the box, imagine pushing on a wall in 4 places but in 2 places pushing a bit harder than others... you don't really want the pressure 'rocking' as you'll get some messed up pressure difference between ends of the box.

ahh i understand. do i hook the dmm to the speaker outputs on the amp? and what click should i put it on? ac right.

is there a way to tell how many watts i am putting out right now with just the ks1200.1?

also there is a way to set your gains with a dmm right, do i do the same thing? hook the terminals up to the amps speaker outputs and see how many volts it puts out? how many volts is it supposed to be set to?

in exposports sig he has a link to voltage chart that is self explanatory. has the rows of watts you desire that match up with rows of impedences and it shows the voltage desired. To set the output voltage set all settings on the headunit to (0), and turn the volume to 3/4 on the headunit, and run a 50hz test tone with no speakers hooked up to the amps. using a dmm with the leads hooked to the output side of the amplifiers with the dmm set on ac voltage, set the gain to where it shows the desired output voltage for the ohm load you will be using. Also, if you are using a bass knob, set the gains with the knob all the way up so that you don't put the amp into clipping when you crank your bass knob. Set both the amps to the same output voltage, like the person above said, to the lowest common figure, which according to what you said the amps push would be 1200 watts.

alright cool thanks man, now i gotta find exposport lol. i am glad that the speakers dont have to be hooked up, otherwise i wouldnt be able to do it in my college parking lot.

when you said turn all of my setting on my HU to 0 why? are you talking about only SW level, bass boost, and loud? do i have to put my equalizer to zero also?? if i did this my speakers will sound like shit lol. what exactly do i have to put to zero?

Turn off all crossovers, turn treble, mid, bass settings to 0. Headunit at 3/4 the way up.

then once you got the gains set, go back and redo all your eq settings.

You should probolly be getting that remote today or tomorrow also.

ahhhh shit lol, i forgot to check my mail when i was downstairs. all the way from class i remembered to look but when i got to my dorm i spaced it. now my lazy ass has to walk down 4 stories of steps =(

and if i did what you said wouldnt when i changed my eq, on lower frequencies, wouldnt that change the voltage goimg to the subs. i mean change the reading of the dmm on the amp terminals?

edit: also i like to be able to turn my system up all the way without distortion, that is how i have it set up now. can i set my amp with the volume all the way up? or does it have to be 3/4?

alright after a while messing around with my amp i finally got the gain set right. couldnt get it exact but got the gain set to 52.6volts. its supposed to be 52.9 but its really touchy and using bass machanix test tone that last like 5 seconds is a pain in the ass. i left everything on the HU at zero below 125hz, bass is 0, SW+ is 0. bass nob is 3/4 of the way up.

i couldnt get the volts to 52.9 with the HU at 3/4 volume, so i do what i always do and set the amp with the HU turned all the way up. it sounds so good and i can turn it up all the way without distortion. i am alot happier now, thanks alot everyone and thanks exposport for the RMS chart. im hopeing to have new video's when i can, hopefully this weekend.
