Sonotube Sub Build *experimental*

Well I have a 12" subwoofer laying around and decided I to build a sonotube sub system for my little stereo. This is my first sonotube sub build and I just kind of guestimated on sub dimenstions cuz i don't have the t/s parameters of the woofer i'm using. My aim is to have a ported tuning of around 25hz.

Here are the materials i have so far. Im still waiting for the small amp and the aeroport that i ordered.

I cut out rings with the left over mdf I used to build my box for D6's in my car. Im gonna be using this rings as endcaps for the sonotube.

This is the endcap where the woofer will be going.

This is the endcap with the cutout where the aeroport will be going.

Using my 18" as a press while the wood glue is drying. (the 18" is probably my nxt project)

I was just going to spray it black since i got a couple of cans but i thought that would be too plain and would probably turn out ugly. Then I was walking around at Lowes and passed by the wallpaper isle and I boom.....idea. So i guess imma try to get creative with it and pickout a roll of some wallpaper.

yup that's what i heard too. I heard they can really produce a big heavy soundstage like a real life pipe organ and symphony music bass. And they are also good for Hometheater.

Here is the update on my sonotube amp build. It is finished and operational, juz not finished making it look good. I'm thinking about wrapping black carpet around the tube and staining the wood endcaps. This thing sounds AMAZING. It sounds so BIG in low volume. IT creats a big soundstage for my temporary entertainment system in my temporary apartment. Yall should try it if you got a woofer laying around. The only downfall with this are: it is huge (but we all know for a sub to sound big, it has to be big), and it shakes floor since it is down firing (only considering it downfall cuz i live in an apartment and i'm upstairs)

UPS dropped me the amp and aero port.

Terminals I got from my old "DUAL" subs.

the port, about 18" long tuned yielding to a tuning of around 23hz.

SUCCESS.....sounds awesome. sounds so warm and quick enough to hang with my tube amp and very warm and detailed speakers.

sub can get pretty low and sound good even at low volume which actually meets my goal. becuase i play this system real quiet since

How much do those tubes cost? I might make two. I have a basic stereo with two 12" MTX Thunder 3Ks, and I'm thinking of building two different boxes for them.. maybe a box with the two woofers... I like this idea.
