ptcary Posted November 14, 2008 Report Posted November 14, 2008 I am at work and can't see vids. When you say tuned way high, how high are we talking? With the hatch closed it is a sealed enclosure(?) that should have an F3 rolloff frequency based upon the airspace avg per sub? Is it higher than say 45hz? If you are actually gonna rip it out, I am voting for a clam shell with a true sealed back, you could still get at least 20-30 subs in there. Take a good look at Assmans Asstro. He knows how to build a clamshell that will not blow a few of the subs due to pressure variances etc. Also see Exposports 32 8" build. If you just gotta go big subs, then airspace limits will really come into play. 2 18"s would eat up the whole hatch easily. My opinion = 4 15"s would be awesome back there, but a clamshell with a whole lot of 10"s would have more wow factor. I love the look of your tunnel design, it just seems that there is some unknown factor involved with designs like that, maybe cancellation cause of so many subs. Someone with more experience can explain, cause I don't know what it is, Assman help us out here! But how do you guys know that the air pressure inside that tunnel is not limiting the excursion of the subs based upon the volume of the airspace available in that tunnel? It is 32 subs afterall. Also keep in mind that your front seats are a big factor too. I had no idea why these guys test with one or the other seat out. I just replaced both my front seats in my PT with fiberglass racing seats, and now there is nothing to stop the air fom my ports, and my rear mids are much more distinct, too. PT seats are very heavy and well padded, so if they are blocking any part of your tunnel, they might be changing the sound, too. Anyway, just more to think about. Hopefully more testing for you might get you to a happy point enough to leav em in there. If not, you seem to be pretty good about rebuilding, good luck with the construction. I was kinda shooting for amazing lows, but it seems it's not working... I have another thread however and there was a mention of a 4th order bandpass wall... How do you think that would do with 32 tens? That might just be a plan... but I don't see much difference than a tunnel... What do you guys think? Need an install?
