Amp Constantly And Easily Going Into Protect

zx1500.1 wired to 2 ohms

hadn't had a problem with it, got it probably 2 months ago, haven't even gotten it warm then today driving, bam, protect....

i was like wtf mate!?!?!? amp was cool, i would say barely warm

gains are set properly, under half, voltage was right over 14... i wanna say 14.2ish

here's when it happens, and it does everytime i do this...

if i put my bass boost knob up over +-1/4 it goes into protect

if i keep it off it works fine... only thing on kicker amps if bass boost is off there is little to none output

so to keep it out of protect everything has to be damn near off

i checked the owners manual, doesn't list the possibilities of why it would go into protect, i unpluged the power and put it back it

like i said it happened outta the blue

i tried to sum everything up ha, if you guys need to know anything else i'll fill you in, i can take vids tomorrow if you'd like, just let me know

You got a broke amp or a loose wire or a popped coil. Those are the only things that I can think of that would cause that.

Last thought, are you sure you got the subs wired right???

I was gonna say put a meter on the sub and see what it reads..... .. You got to it first though...

check the ground and power wires.. coulda came loose or something

i was wondering bout something in the sub, the coil is going out, like sub is almost ready to be used as a paper weight or try to get it reconed

it's wired correctly but the coil's burning up, you think that could have something to do with it?

the only wire that was even semi loose was the power which i reconected and checked all other conections

It is possible that you have popped one of the coils and the other still works, which would change your ohm load. Plus the coil that popped could be shorting out the amp. I have done that before. I could play it at a low volume and it would play fine but turn it up pass half way and it goes into protect.

Take the sub(s) out and check each voice coil to see whats what.

Im guessing by one of his other posts, he thermaled the voice coil (prob from clipping).

hahaha i feel like a total newb but after reading, i've always noticed my sub putting off a potent smell, kinda sweet, idk i actually like how it smelt

but is this the voice coil or something else burning???

i am overpowering the sub, and when i smell it i turn everything down. I also noticed the smell mainly in the first two weeks, but even today i smelt it

looked in there with a flashlight, vc looks black and the white tube piece that the copper wires are spun around looks like it has melted and bubbled

So now Im going to take a guess and this is what caused your amp to fry and be sent back and forth to Kicker 8+ times, according to the thread(s) below of your ranting about how you f**king hate kicker....

It seems tho you already knew your sub was bad a few weeks ago and posted videos and saying your coil looks "burnt and bubble", you continuted to use your car stereo, and now it made things worse to the point that your amp is kicking protect everytime you turn it up and cause a dead short from a blown voice coil. If you havent yet figured out someone thing is wrong and wanna continue playing it, I feel another 5 million thread comming from you about saying how kicker is bad, and you had it fixed blah blah blah and everything is fine cuz you checked it all out..

What you need to do, is buy a new sub and hook it up, and pray that you didnt damage your amp!!

awesome, it's for my single 15" L7, in the process of getting all new stuff cause the sub keeps fucking up ha

but before i take the sub out i should be able to just check the ohm load in the box terminals first? and if i get a funky reading then i'll take it out

i think this is the problem 95% sure

I would just take it out and check eat coil individually
