neuspeedescort Posted October 23, 2009 Report Share Posted October 23, 2009 it looks like it was spot welded and then body filler added in its common practice by car manufactures to stamp weld things like this then use a heavy duty seem sealer to water proof it. if they didn't manufacture like this your car would have a lot of stress fractures in the corners of the metal the vehicle. granted it doesnt really help keep 160 db in very well. but for daily driving this is what keeps car together and quieter free of rattles. The box keeps them well under control.
