Loudest Sealed

Which one of his vehicles are sealed? As far as I was aware of one was a ported wall, and the other was a 4th order bandpass. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but the 30 10's is technically a bandpass design and not a true sealed enclosure.

Now you're getting into some dicey territory - would you say that the hoopty is a parallel tuned 6th order bandpass or 2 big ported walls that face each other?

Also you could argue that the 'front' of assman's 'bandpass' is tuned so high that it doesn't effect the response, especially when playing 30hz or whatever he peaks at.

my truck right now is ported but all my 20+ woofer builds have always been built as a sealed clamshell. It may be technically a bandpass but was never dreamed of or built that way.

I'm not trying to start a arguement but its like saying that every clamshell box built is a bandpass.I just dont see it as a bandpass.Thats just me i suppose

The way it reacts with the car is what makes it such an effective design. The enclosure is coupled to the vehicle's cabin like a ratio. With a crappy small sealed box the ratio is way too small so it never has a great effect compared to a wall. With a big wall the ratio is something like 50% enclosure 50% cabin. I know with mine I can change the way it sounds dramatically by opening a window or door, or both windows etc. depending on what kind of music is playing.

Well, neither Oki's box or Team Nemesis Dj's box look like a bandpass to me. So does that mean that they are sealed? Not trying to start an arguement but a clamshell is technically a bandpass enclosure. Imo it shouldn't be counted as a sealed box is all.

And to comment on the you can call any sealed box a bandpass due to the environment. That is not true at all. When classifying an enclosure you are doing just that naming what kind of enclosure it is. It has nothing to do with it's loading environment. That is not taken into account when calculating for a design or when naming one. If that were true then the only way it would be it's true design would be if it were outside in the open, and that's not how it works.

Oki's box is an obvious bandpass. There are woofers in sealed boxes firing into an enclosed space with a measured, tuned port at the front of the chamber.

It's just most of the pictures you see of it are with the camera inside the enormous port.

I know that Oki's box is an obvious bandpass, but it's the same concept of the clamshell. The clamshell only lacks the smaller opening at the front of the enclosure. It's a bit harder to tell that it's a bandpass, but it is and is just tuned alot higher than what it would be if the port opening at the front were smaller.

could u classify a sealed downfire as a bandpass tuned to how ever high it is from the floor? and just a question do u tune a port close to the fs of the sub for better efficency? or like 5 or so htz higher than fs? and i think the bandpass factor deals with a sealed box fireing into a sealed cabbin kinda flows like a bandpass but not really, i aint really figured out how to tune a 6th order bandpass, tune enclosure to 32 and outer port to like 45-50? im still wondering how u port a wall that has no port just a hole for spl, it looks to me like a infinate ported baffle with no wall just the wood thickness for tuneing, and does longer port mean lower tuneing or so? cause i wanna change the tuneing of my enclosure in my geo, mtx prefers the 5500 1544 to be tuned to 38htz but on the site they say they can play notes down to 19htz and i wanted to tune to 32htz for lower bass

here's a link to my system 99 toyota tacoma , 2 mtx 8000 1504's in a sealed downfire , 1000w memphis amp

here's a link to my other system my 90 geo prizm test car

heres a thread i got of new songs u can dl that are legal = Some Good Bangage/you Can Dl These Free And Legit

i think tommy mckenny does around 165bass race or atleast around 160 on music or thats what ive seen in vids of his and its not a van, but i think sealed sounds better but not louder than ported(this might start an arguement tho), i think ported sounds good but cant hit the notes a sealed box can because of tuneing, a sealed box can play low but still play high also, just not as loud, my truck can play the full bass line of late nite tip, the lows, and the higher bass, but have yet to see ppl with a ported box do that, it will play lows well but not the higher freq bass notes, like a box tuned to 32htz wont play in the 40-50htz range as good as the lower 30htz range, like a box tuned to 38htz wont play low but a box tuned in the 20s-30htz range wont play the higher notes (and im thinkin its cause so much air is flowin at a lower tone that it dont have enulf room to compress the wave to a higher freq), ya they will play kick drum but thats around the 38-40 range but the higher 50-60 range is not there really, it might sound like it but its not really there, were a sealed box will play anything around the woofers fs and up dependin on enclosure size because(deeper/bigger sub box will play lower than a smaller sub box), and i kno this for a fact because my subs do it, u can pritty much play anything from a sealed box and it sound good n be moderately loud, but for u to play rock, rap, country, rnb ued halfto change tuneing and what knot to get the adiquate sound quality that u would with a sealed box from ported, now ported will be louder due to more air flow, but will not pick up higher freq's as efficent as a sealed box cause they can compress faster than with ported so it will have a more loosely note, and if anyone wants to talk about this ied like someone to play country/bluegrass on there system tuned to 32htz n see how it picks up the guitars and sutch, ya it will play drum bass, and lower guitar notes but the higher ones i dought it, and thats why i like sealed, now i built a ported box for my geo and its damn loud but will not play low bass if i changed tuneing, its tuned to 38htz but if i brought it down to 32 it wont play the high bass i like from rock n sutch

That was a loooong sentence. lol I agree with you that sealed boxes CAN be more accurate, but it's hard to find fault with a properly designed and built ported enclosure. Especially in a car where space and power are limited.

To me it seems that an enclosure is built to specific parameters for a specific sound. How can a car be an accidental bandpass? For sure the cabin has a huge effect, but who measures the airspace in the front of the vehicle and tunes ports to a specific freq?

Alan Dante does ;)
