AP Zoutes
Looking for an expert opinion (or close to it ) my box is sealed with the subs facing back. If I decided to port this box and tune it to 33hz with teh ports firing up how will this effect the sound. I know the enclosure is small for ports. Is it too small? BTW each chamber is .96ft3 if I will do one single 2"x7" port per chamber. Subtracting port displacemant leaves me with only .93 ft3 per chamber ALso winisd shows a port velocity of 169m/s peak at 32hz - Does this matter. Should I increase the size ports to lower the velocity or will it make no noticeable difference? Using 4" ports would bring the velocity down to 41 m/s according to winisd. But I Would have to figure out a way to make 32" long ports
Ernesto
I never would do it that way I know people that have and it didn't sound right. I would just rebuild it if I were you.
AP Zoutes
That's what I would normallly suggest too but, after looking at The Diamond's suggested ported enclosure size they recommend only 1.07ft3. So I'm not off by much. MY biggest concern was the port velocity and port placement. I don't have the room on the baffle to fire the ports through. SO I was wondering about porting the top. I was also thinking a cool idea would be to use the 4"x32" ports. They would fire from the bottom of the enclosure. THe port would be external. Go under the fasle floor into the spare tire well and come back up flush mount with the floor and fire in front of the subs.
kingsuv
the more airspeed out of your port the better chance for noise. Open it up as much as you can without taking up too much air space and you should be ok. beware of letting the rip too much too often. Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out. not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.

meade916
you could use 4" port tubes but rather than JUST port up, i would extend the tube out of the box completly and port up thru the rear deck. It wil sound better and the tube itself takes up no internal space in the box. You might need to rebuild though because that is a small box for ported but its worth a try. Theres other options in a trunk that are better but if your set on aiming back and porting up then you really want to come up into the cabin with it or it will sound like poop. Dale
I would rebuild. The amount of work it would take to get this to work right could be more than whats needed to just build an entire new box.
