Texas Tech
I have never built a box, but I would like to soon, and I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to hardware. It seems like there are a million types of screws, what kind should I use. I dont really understand what screw is for what application (wood,metal...ect.). Decaf
i use 2" coarse thread drywall screws predrill and countersink so u dont split the wood glue is more important, screws are just a "clamp" for the glue til it dries

roscoe1129
I use either wood or drywall screw. BUT screws are not to hold the box together, but to hold the wood in place until the glue drys, so just use enough to pull the box together and make a good seal. audiofanaticz
I glue all my joints with a decent 1/4 inch wide bead of TiteBond 3 wood glue. I pre-drill and use a 1.5 inch drywall screw. Usually square drive heads. With a screw every 10-16 inches. Screws are only there to hold the box together while glue dries, The dried glue joints will be stronger then the wood itself, and more secure then screws could ever do! If you want to spend about $15 extra, buy some fiberglass resin and resin the inside of the box. You can also tip your box and a angle and use the resin to give you 45 degree interior edges. which would help sound waves smoothly move thru your box. Texas Tech
I have used the drywall screws to mount my amp to the side of my enclosure, and 2of the 8 screws I used got "stripped" in the wood, I guess you would say Baylor University Accounting
Texas Tech
Well I do not have the option of using air tools, although I wish. Technically, for wood, are you suppose to use these kind of screws....they are unthreaded towards the head, and become threaded for the bottom 3/4ths of the screw...? http://www.rd.com/images/tfhimport/2000/JA...y_WoodScrew.jpg Baylor University Accounting
