rk772
What's the best way to connect 1/0 gauge battery cable to the lugs. Do you need a special tool? This looks like a good price on a tool. Does it work well? https://weldingsupply.securesites.com/cgi-b...:UNDEF:OR:04040 These are the lugs I have: https://weldingsupply.securesites.com/cgi-b...weco+³Lug-Set²) Thanks Edited February 6, 2009 by rk772

rk772
Solder them This connection is for the HO Alternator. Will soldering withstand the heat and vibration over time.
raytard
yes unless your engine is getting well over 400 (normal temps are 200-210) and solder is like welding, vibration isnt an issue, and i will promise you a well done solder will work 5x better then a well done crimp any day, both in connectivity and strength (i used to crimp, tried soldering, I'll never go back, you could tow a friggin car with 0g and soldered on terminals, most crimps i could pull off by hand with some elbow grease) Quote Build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...hl=avalon+build monster/rockford/kicker/stinger cables, pioneer source, jbl highs/amps, kinetik/shuriken batts, iraggi alt, dei security, dc subs(atleast for now) Team DC

Can I just fill with pieces of rosin core solder, melt with a torch and then insert the cable end?
wierdguy75
I have the closed end lugs for the big 3. Can I just fill with pieces of rosin core solder, melt with a torch and then insert the cable end? that wont work cause you have to bond the wire to the lugs, if you did that the wire would be cold, it would just create a cold solder joint.. That's why you need to heat up the lug with the wire in it first, then apply the solder. Edited February 9, 2009 by wierdguy75
kingsuv
I use closed lugs and fill them about half way with solder then insert the wire. If you keep it nice and hot it works great. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
