It also affects how much you can turn the gain on your amp up. The higher the pre amp voltage, the more you can turn the gain on your amp up and still get a clean signal.

LoLwut? Uh, no.

IMO if you're setting the gains correctly (with a scope, the multimeter method mostly used on here is kinda wrong in a lot of ways...) then it's exactly the same.

The only time a line-driver/high voltage preouts helps is if you're dividing the signal a lot or you have a lot of induced noise and want to use less gain on the amps.

MAKES A HUGE FUCKIN DIFFERENCE...i went from an AVIC-N2 to an AVICF90BT thats from a 2V to a 4V...let me just say my bass is tighter, seems louder and voltage stays a little better. Also my amp used to get REAL hot and smells a lil when bangin on it even on a short period...i drove home (good 15-20 min drive) blasting away....full tilt whole time....amp was cool to the touch and hardly ANY smell. and for once in a long time my ears are ringing a lil.

i have a line driver but it gave me feedback so i took it out...ima re-hook it up and see if i can eliminate that noise somehow and get a lil louder. so when buying LOOK INTO PRE-AMP VOLTAGE

I love my AudioControl Four.1 it makes a huge difference on output Voltage and clarity and Bass seem to be a lot tighter http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/public/style_emoticons/default/hairtrick.gif

Same here. Went from a 2v pioneer to a 4v pioneer and god damn. Now if I could just find a deck with out the fucking rca hiss Id be set.

Quite a bit of misinformation in this thread, but hey if it makes you happy... :)

A higher pre-out voltage does NOT allow you to turn the gain knob up higher, in fact it does the opposite. But because you can turn down the gain you're amplifying less noise with your signal, giving you a higher S/N ratio and lower noise floor.
