Is it okay to run speakers at 2 ohm

Recommended Posts

If you put to 4 ohm speakers into one channel, making it 2 ohms would that be okay (of course with the right power and all)? What would be the bad part about this, what would i lose (if anything, maybe SQ i duno)?

Yes it would be okay. As long as your amp is either mono or 2 channel 2ohm stereo stable like most are. But dont connect it to the bridged output. you may lose a little sq but hardly any really because your amp wont be working that hard since its only a 2ohm load.  :D

Okay I am thinking of buying a T4004, putting 2 pairs of speakers on the first 2 channels then using the second two for tweeters

What about tweeters at 2 ohms?

speakers can handle any ohm load...is the amp that takes a beating from a low ohm load. you can run a speaker at 8 ohm 2 ohm 6 ohm .5 ohm wont hurt it as long as the amp is stable at that set ohm load.

with speakers though the lower the ohm load the more THD that will be produced. it SOMETIMES makes an audible difference depending on the quality of the amp. Some quality amps can sound better at 2 ohm than a crappy amp at 8 ohm.

speakers are also usually more efficient when wired in parallel.

whatre you talking about? so quad 1 ohms wired in parallel are most efficient that a single 4 ohm? dont think so.

no asshole.  if you take a dual 2 ohm sub and wire the voice coils in parallel, it will be more efficient than if you wired it in a series.
