If its a mic, then it will eventually fall out of calibration and be subject to varying atmospheric conditions.

Which means,

It may be 1 dB off from a TL now, but after a few months of use it can be 5 dB off.

Also, it may be 1 db off from a TL in summer on a clear day, but in fall on a cloudy day it could be 8 db off.

Bottom line is consistancy, a TL will never deviate from it original calibration.

Also, a TL has a built in O scope and spectrum analyzer that will tell you the exact frequency you peak at.

A friend of mine had one, and they are fairly accurate. Measured .3 dB lower then TL on same freq.

The thing is you need a GOOD dmm also, cheap ones don't work well.

if anything i think they would be nice to have for testing with. just to see what gets you louder. and bassrace runs for practice. that's what i'd use it for, not necessarily to check how loud i am. i'll leave that up to a TL

x3 I mean I can always ask my buddy to use his termlab. But after awhile of asking it gets bothersome. So I was just planning to use the mic for ball park figure of my Dbs, and use his termlab like when a comp is coming up.

I was looking at those a while back too but I decided against it because it doesn't have peak hold. I'm still curious how well it actually works though.

it depends, it's your DMM that has a peak hold, one isnt included so just buy a nicer DMM

I have one, its good for in my garage, and to see what feq I peak at with changes, mine is prob a DB off the termlab
