Does anyone know how to carbon fiber? I heard it is much much harder to do then fiberglass and is also as strong. I dont want it for its lightweight but for its looks. I plan on doing my enclosure and console maybe a few other small things. thanx

if youre mostly doing it for the looks, do fiberglass and then smooth it down and then resin a layer of CF over that, doing pure CF is extremely difficult, overlaying one layer ontop of fiberglass, not so bad

It's unbelievably strong, I should know! I sandwiched four layers of the 8 oz., a 1/4" thick, and it almost stopped a .45 cal at point blank range!!! I work for Owens Corning, so I mess with fiberglass of all kinds 12 hrs. a day. I make the fabric that goes into the wind generator blades, for all the wind energy companies. Here is a couple pics of some 8 oz. black twintex that is used in our consolidators

Nobody has worked with it? It doesnt look to be that expensive. Basically from what i have read you have to clean the part, tack rag it for dust and stuff, then lay down a coat of resin, let that sit for a few hours or until tacky but cant leave a finger print if touched then lay the mat and dab resin into it forcing bubbles and air out and repeat process until you have the amount of layers needed. They mentioned that all layers can be done at once but id let it dry for a hour or two between layers just in case.
