HHR Ed
Birch has a lower resonance. MDF is a little more dense and has a higher resonance. So it depends on your goals and tuning. Pioneer~Saturn
Birch is good stuff but I cant agree with it being easier/better to cut, mdf cuts like butter. zfrerichs
so ed for bassrace purposes birch or mdf with tuning around 35 hz on 9k which in your experience would work better? Quote Roseville, CA
zfrerichs
one of the reasons i havent worked with plywoods to make boxes is the splinters and of how the edges round over. whenever i would round over plywood it wasnt very smooth but that was with oak so maybe birch is different i dont know Quote Roseville, CA
HHR Ed
so ed for bassrace purposes birch or mdf with tuning around 35 hz on 9k which in your experience would work better? For Bass Race it wont matter too much. Sometimes you actually want your box to resonate some, and some of the super high SPL cars tune the box flex resonance to support their burp frequency. If you want to play under 40 Hz, you want a low resonance like what Birch will do, but it may only make a .1db or less of a difference in bass race. siucsaluki11
my question is, at over $80 a sheet for 3/4" birch, is it worth it when compared to 3/4" MDF. No im not the OP but i figured i could ask here instead of starting a new thread. For me, money would be considered. So price vs performance, is the birch worth it?
