Daniel Brill-Edwards Posted January 25, 2011 Report Posted January 25, 2011 First off: WOW Secondly: I have been on this site for ages now and have never seen such a thorough build log. Thank you so much for explaining every detail and thought you had along the way. I know the feeling all too well when you are working on your own and are trying out little things and coming up against small problems. When I was doing my build I was thinking about the build log the whole time and showing people everything. Have a look (link in my signature) and see what you think! Thanks again for the detail and an amazing build I appreciate the words. My goal was to document my build, the good and the bad, to be able to help someone out somehow. They might see this and say "doesnt look too bad, i think ill do my own install too" or maybe someone has a car like mine and isnt sure where to run the wires or how to get the back seat out, after seeing this they'll know. But I also want to document my growth as a shadetree installer and see if i could get some advice/tips/techniques from others on how i could improve on things too. 99vic Posted January 26, 2011 Report Posted January 26, 2011 So tomorrow I will be rough cutting the port opening on that second baffle, this cut will be just to get the majority of the opening cut out, I'll use my flush trim bit to cut away the rest of the material and ensure the opening is perfectly flush with the port walls.....but this will have to wait until later in the week to be done. After doing the rough cut I'll clean out the box, mix up some resin and pout it into the back corners of the port wall and the box at the back of the port and let that cure overnight. Then on Tuesday I'll tilt the box to the other corner and mix up some resin, pour it in that corner and let that cure overnight. Wednesday I'll paint the port red, glue and screw both baffles to the box and use the flush trim bit to finish off the port opening on the second baffle and at that point the box assembly will be complete. I'll double check all my edges and flush trim any that need it. Then I'll remove all the screws in the box, fill all the holes with wood filler and sand down the whole box nicely. Thursday I'll primer the box and let that cure overnight. Friday I'll paint the box black. I should be all finished with it Friday night. Saturday my son has a wrestling tournament out of town all day so won't be working on it that day. My deck will arrive Wednesday and Sunday I'll get it installed and get this box in the trunk and making some noise! Thanks to my homie 99vic for coming by and helping me out with this, even if you were just good for wiping my forehead when I started sweating from doing all the damn work! SQMonte Posted January 31, 2011 Author Report Posted January 31, 2011 nice work broThanks...and thank you for the suggestions on the design specs.Been doing a little work when I could throughout the week and finally have the box fully assembled, just working on the exterior now to get it as smooth as possible in preparation for paint. It's been a long process, definitely learned alot (mainly, NEVER let 99vic operate a power tool ) but it's coming along nicely. Here's what I call the "flush baffle", I drilled a hole in each corner of where the port opening needed to be and took a jigsaw to it for the "rough cut". Then I poured the 45's Shortly after doing the 45's I realized I wasn't gonna be able to paint the port red like I wanted. I was kinda bummed but it is what it is...the look of the resin isn't too bad so it's gonna have to do. Once the 45's were done I glued and screwed both baffles in place and let that sit overnight. Last night I did the last little bit of resin work, laying down a coat or two in the port opening. Ever since then I've been removing screws, filling holes, sanding, filling holes again, sanding, tedious work this sanding stuff. Finally, today I was able to get the roundovers done....still working on getting the holes filled in nicely and sanded to a smooth finish. I thought this would be the easiest part of the build....haha, not so much. Well, this is the box as it sits now, trying to speed up the drying process of the spot putty with my worklight. Hopefully I can get some primer on it tomorrow night Alpine CDA-117...Memphis 16-X03 CDT Audio SQA-4100...SEAS Prestige H1396...Crescendo MP-6 Soundstream Rubicon 1.2500d...Digital Designs 3512f

Steph3n1 Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 lookin good mane! hope that sub is working out well for you. Whoever said DD's dont hit the lows? sounds like a pretty noobish comment to me considering the fact i peaked at 35hz with my last setup doing a 145.2, and was above a 140 all the way down to 26hz hmmmm lolWow. What was the specs of that box and how much power were you giving them? Sub should be making noise on Sunday, can't wait! Box was 3.1 cubes net tunes to 30 with 38^2 of port. and it was on 950 clamped watts after rise. Why can't you paint the port? if you can fit your hand in there just get some 400 grit and ruff it up a little bit then spray paint it as far as you can from the outside it should cover it to the point to where it'll look fine. 2005 Ford Ranger Reg cab Build in Progress T3 Audio T2000 12 ARC SE4000 Stinger HPM 1/0 Wire DC power 270xp Batts: 1 Redtop up front and a Stinger SPP2250 in the back Hopes to be in and around a 150....weel see my youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/steph3n1 Team DBs (Driven By sound)
