Moore941
would two 6 inch aero ports suffice for enough port area for a single lvl 5 18 in about 7.5 cubes before displacements? shainemcconnell
with the aero ports it is a good rule of thumb to use something like 8-14 in^2 of port surface area... Nightshade
Honestly 7.5 cubes is too much for that sub. I'd try putting it in around 6 cubes with the 2 6" aeros and I bet that you'll be much happier with the results. Anything over 6 cubes is honestly too big for an 18 Imo. The DC website says recommended space for a SPL setup is 8 cu. ft. Is the DC website wrong? Edit: I built a 8 cu. ft. test box for my lvl 5 18 and it seemed good... Edit: I built a 8 cu. ft. test box for my lvl 5 18 and it seemed good... The key word there is SPL. I'm willing to bet that he's not putting this 18 in a wall where 8 cubes is a good airspace to have it in for spl. With that much airspace behind the cone there is much more chance that the woofer will be damaged, especially with quite a bit of power on it. That is why I suggested a smaller box, to bring up the impedence rise some and keep the cone under controll. Ben Building
How much power are you running on this sub? THAT'S what determines how big your port needs to be. The more power you use, the more air the vent should be designed to accomodate. :hairtrick:
Moore941
itll be seein around 2600 rms, and that 7-7.5 cubes before all displacements so u figure the standard 18 is around .26-.30 cubes displacement and then port displacement, and then all bracing displacement. so most likely around 6.5-7 cubes max Edit: and i can always cut the box size after i build also its as simple as a circular saw and some straight lines ya know. I would rather start off to big and be able to cut it down than to small and have to totally rebuild as i dont have that kinda money. Moore941
alright so here are the specs i have so far 43w x 19.5h x 18d and with port and sub and bracing displacement im figuring around 1 cube with all displacement still gotta work out tuning and such but its a rough estimate so far may go just a bit bigger on the box. this is putting the box around 6 cubes with all displacement which is what i originally planned on running, and yes this will be a daily setup anyone know how to calculate round port lengths and tuning looking for around 34-36hz tuning wise Quote 2000 White Dodge Durango 5.9L Flowmaster 40 Series through 2 1/2" with and open cat. 1 Dc lvl5 18 4 6.5 seleniums and 2 D200 Selenium Horns on Rockford 500.2 Big three upgrade and a kinetik HC1800 in the back with all 1/0g knu wire shootin for 145+
