kandiman71874 Posted July 30, 2009 Report Share Posted July 30, 2009 Birch Ply contains voids or non solid areas in the layers, Baltic Birch is void free but you pay dearly for it. Some birch ply is better than others as far as voids being present however. All depends on who manufactured it usually as to how void free it is. True Baltic usually will come in a 5 foot by 5 foot sheet and run you anwhere from 55-95 bucks a sheet depending on where you find it. Some have said they can find it in 4x8 sheets but even my cabinet buddy has said not in true baltic. Best bet to find it cheaper is to find someone you know that works in a woodshop building cabinets all day and find out if they can get some true Baltic Birch for you from thier supplier. sound xtreme Posted July 31, 2009 Report Share Posted July 31, 2009 i used to get this baltic birch from a DIE manufacturer, they used to get it in 5'x10' sheets, and it came in 5/8, 3/4, 1, and 1 1/8 thicknesses. the 1 1/8 thickness was (if i remember correctly) 16 ply. This wood could stop shotgun slugs at close range. I could only get about 2-3 foot by 5 foot pieces. it would burn out saw blades with the quickedness.
