Bass Knob = Less Power?

I've also found out that the Sundown amps make more power and spl with the bass knobs unplugged. I've been doing this for almost a year on mine. Also try maxing out the crossover to 220hz and turning the sub sonic filter down to 10hz. This will let all signal pass through and will be louder than setting those to somewhere in the middle.

i suppose it depends on what amp and what function the knob actually controls.... i just got my aq2200d today... and the manual says that the knob controls the "level" whatever that means... and it also has a clipping light on it... sooo.... im wondering just exactly what my knob does...lol... and its kinda weard... the max is on the left and min is on the right so you have to turn it counter clockwise to turn it up...

and i also have a question about the clip light thing... could this be used to get a pretty good idea on where the gains should be? does it pretty much be the same as an oscope except you dont see the waves?

the op got the info he wanted i believe... so ima bump this to see if i can get some Audioque owners in here... instead of wasteing the bandwidth on another thread...

I have an AQ1200D and just installed my bass knob last weekend and thought it was odd that it was labeled as you mentioned above. If anybody knows for sure, please get back to us.

I never use bass boost or plug in my bass knobs for SPL, as they will actually decrease the score.

Amps usually have a sweet spot of signal input voltage. Anything over can be too clipped, or just too much for the amp to operate efficiently at.

Bass boost increases the signal input voltage into the input stage of the amp.

So if your amp's sweet spot is 2.5v for example, and your headunit is a 2.5v pre-amp output. And your gain is set on the amp to the proper sensitivity, Then the bass boost is just overdriving the amp and putting maybe 3.5v input for example.

the sundowns dont use a bass boost knob. its a gain knob. no offence but all your posts here dont address the problem at all.

i dont understand how this could be. how did the test go? i could only believe this number is you had an o-scope, set your gains with no gain knob then turned the gain on the amp all the way up and retune with the knob and o-scope. is that what he did? im really interested in knowing more about this and figuring it out.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

I can do the exact same score with or without the knob - just compensate a little with a bit more RCA signal (higher sub control level) or amp gain.

The knob is always going to have some sort of resistance and being in line with the signal it will decrease signal level a bit due to that.
