2006 Chevy 2500hd Duramax 4dr.

Recommended Posts

Its been a few days so here's the progress I've got.

Clamped up the box and left the glue to dry after I had secured the middle section/plexi in with screws.

Posted Image

Once it was all nice n screwed & glued and dry, I threw some primer on the middle section to match it up w/ the sides.

Just checkin the fit on the top again. It won't get final assembly till the inside is all white, so here the top piece is just floatin there.

so how did you manage to screw the center piece of plexi in?

Since you all ready had the 2 outside pieces inplace, I was just wondering?

I ONLY screwed it from underneath/thru the bottom...YET.

Once i am sure I'm ready to put the top on, it will be screwed in the same way from above.

The glue I been using (Elmers ultimate) expands 3-4x over applied volume so it really "fills in any gaps and keeps from needing to seal any more/silicone etc..but I do it w/ Hi-strenght liquid nails anyhoo just to help w/ the strength.

This case was NOT Ideal, and I would rather screw it all the way around that piece, but since I'm really tryin to just jam on this thing while school is goin, I'm just jumpin off bridges as I come to em & hopefully get it done b4 summer.

I will glue/seal the hell outta the interior as well, and "AS IS" w/ just the bottom Glued & screwed, & the sides glued only, it's pretty solid.

Once the Top is on and there's more screws holdin it in there, it should be able to withstand them lil 8's.

I'm "freestylin" this one. In retrospect I prolly should have done an Inlaid piece of 1/4" or 1/2" plexi in the box floor b4 i started buildin it, but I dint have the owners "ok" for plexi at that point.

It should be Kosher once it's done.

Before it turns into a nightmare, I am gonna advise you to put blocks on the sides "inside" the enclosure.

Screw thru your braces into them, then thru the front of the plexi into the pieces just added.

I have seen Things go very wrong, and would hate to see you attempt a fix in the later stages of the install.

Take the 2 hours now, instead of the 2 days later.

I can see you are learnign tons on this one, a very commendable thing bro.

Looks great.

I'm liking this man. Let me know how those sound, I'm doing an install in a titan with two 8" l5's this weekend. Actually I'll probably finish before you cause I'm just building a standard downfire box for em. But keep up the good work, and the pics.

A couple links to some box builds:

Tahoe Box 1, Tahoe Box 2, Nissan Titan, VW GTI,

Mini-Bump, Hummer H2, Ford F-150

My own car builds (current setup --- under construction):

Overall Thread, Kickpods, Dash, Back Doors

Subwoofer Wall

HA!

I was actually considering the "block" idea already Mr Ray sir but thanx for the headsup.

I really think since every seam on this box (as with all my boxs) is glued and screwed with the exception of those 2 perimeter/side edges of the middle piece of plexi, it should be ok with just glue, and resealed from inside w/ hardening liquid nails.

I'm still considering the block idea but I dont really want the bocks to be visible thru the plexi and to make them big enough to not crack when I drill/screw em I'd think they'd have to be bigger than I'd like.

The other option I'm lookin at is that front trim piece.

The trim piece is gonna get either vinyled like the rest of the box or painted, then glued into place.

Since that cover trim piece will then help reinforce the plexi pieces and actually overlap the only 2 spots that are not held by screws, I think that extra 3/4" over the top, glued and maybe screwed too (if i screw it in I will fill screw holes/sand, and re-paint after) should make it pretty damn secure, esp considering the small scale of the box.

Thanx everybody for the comments, all are welcome and I shall keep ya posted as soon as I get the pics into PB.

The stuff I did today.

Sorry Ray, Tops on, and no blocks, but reinforcing those spots from in FRONT will work just as well as doing it from behind I think (ok who went "giggity giggity" when they read "doing it from behind"? haha. I did)

Top's officially on.

No shots of the tops side yet until the glue sets but it's screwed THIS many time also.

Posted Image

Backside too.

Heres that front trim piece I was reffering to
