HunterC
i bought a cold air intake kit for my 97 toyota tacoma 3.4 V6 4x4. The intake itself did not come with a heat shield. Do i necessarly need a heat shield or can i use it without one?

treossi
you don't really need it... but heat shield will help keep hot air out of the intake area... you could make one i guess Quote Team sundownWESTCOASTSPL.COM we're throwing dbdrag events very soon visit the website for details
HunterC
I was thinking that i didnt need one but some of the other intakes they make for my truck come with them. I just wanted to make sure the heat or whatever from the engine wouldnt hurt it. I appreciate the help guys.
99vic
you dont need the heat shield... but it makes the cold air intake pointless. the goal is to bring in the cold air and not the hot. lil_italy773
x2 i agree they are pointless suckin in all the engine compartment heat. u want cooler denser air for better fuel /air mixture. which will get u better over all performance. Loudcav
most pf the power that is gained comes from all the crap in the intake track being removed when I put an intake on my 98 s10 with the 2.2 a ton of stuff got pulled out most of it you would never know was in there most of it Id say was resonaters to quiet the truck down every vehicle is diffrent tho my Silveado with the 4.3 dosent have alot of crap in the air path tho it dose have a small resonater right next to the throttle body
CFAIST
If your Taco dosen't have a mechanical fan. uldn't notice a difference. the only reason most have a heat sheild is to block the turbulance from the fan. The heat is sometimes and issue but mostly they are for keeping fan wash at bay, and stopping irratic Idle (SP CHK). Just my experience and $0.02 Quote C.A.R.
