this is gunna be a long one guys. sorry

ok so i have an '01 chevy blazer and i've been having some problems with it. it was running really rough and smelling like fuel so i threw my neighbers snap on scanner on it. its the red one that looks kinda like a brick. so anyway, it came up running rich on bank 1 and 2, and random multiple misfire. so i tried to take care of the misfire problem by changing the spark plugs, then the wires, then the distibuter cap (they were all the original ac delco parts with 104000 miles on um). none of that worked. helped a little but not much. so at this point i was kinda stumped. so i brought it over to goodyear to have them check it out. after about an hour and a half they call me back and say its a bad fuel injector, gunna cost around 500 between diognostic time, parts and labor. so i let him go ahead and do it. after hes done he calls me back and says the injector helped but the fuel pressure regulator is bad also and its gunna be another 200. so i was kinda pissed but i let him do it anyway. sooo $700 later the guy calls me back and goes ok the injector and the fuel pressure reg. took care of the running rich problem, but its still misfiring at the number 4 cylander. it could be that since it was running so rich there is exces fuel in the cylender that just needs to be burnt off, or if its not better in a few weeks possibly a cam. so what do you guys think? is this guy telling me the truth or he completely full of it? it is running better and starting quicker than it used to. but i still have the check engine light from the misfire and its still running pretty rough at idle.

go to ya buddy scanner and see what code it throw cuz its multiple things that can cause a misfire and it may be just 1 thing that tied along with those systems that could make it misfire and burn rich.

I know a lil about everything so dont call me Mr. Know it All.

take it to a speed shop.

your getting rapped at the "goodyear".

you can hook an o-scope to each injector and see if it's misfiring

excess fuel will"burn off" in seconds, not weeks.

a cam wouldnt be "random"

compression test good across the board?

did u change the distribitor pin also?

but missfireing could halfto do with electrical and cam too, not enough air to fuel mixture n u get no boom in that cylinder, could be the timeing also but i dnt see how its missfireing on just one cylinder off timeing

might be a bad valve if its a missfire cause without it lettin enough fule into the chamber u get no explosion and no vroom

heres a video of how one works n what all it takes to make one run, maby u can check all the cheap stuff first befor u go into buyin a cam n what knot

im not a mechanic but my uncle is n i can ask him if u want me to cause replaceing a cam aint cheap but replaceing a valve aint either

hope u get it fixed, did u try checkin the fuel lines to make sure ur gettin fuel throughout the whole engine?

i always take things to the local mechs, not the major ones like monroe, goodyear, firestone etc... they just rip you off hard

ok my frieds got an oscope i might give him a call. how do i scan it wit hthe oscope? also the compression on the number 4 cyl is a liitle low . not sure exactly what it was but not as much asw it should be. thanks guys

Sounds legit, but did he just replace 1 injector? If so, thats HIGH...
dont know how many he replaed but remember that on those engines the injector rail is inside of the intake manifold so ther is a lot o R&R. prob about 3-4hrs at 80-90- per hour soooo

yea he only did one and i double checked that because i though it sounded high too. but after some googel searching i found out how muich of a pain in the ass it is to get to

well a bad or bent valve would not be random.

no fucking way its timing.

how low was the compression on cyl 4?

to use the o-scope just set it to a/c volts and probe both injector wires. it will look like a bunch of spikes.... if it stumbles you will notice the spike missing.

I work on cars all day, stereo or not , i think a tech should know vehicles inside and out.
