smullen Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 I've never laid hands on an El Cheapo Fuse link like the one above, but I really don't see what or how one is different than the other... I mean besides looks and ergonomics, no matter what quality (High or low) the fuse holder just holds the ............. Fuse....... The Fuse should have blown if it went over its rated power for a rated time... My questions are: Why did the fuse not Blow? Did he have too big a fuse for the application? Did he need a larger ga. wire for the application? What was going on to make said amp draw that much current? Loudcav Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 a maxi fusewill take a good bit more than its rated for to pop
RMac18 Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Installed a scosche wire kit with the same fuse holder for someone, a month or so back. Hopefully for his sake his doesn't burn up to, but thats what happens when they don't listen to me and buy the cheapest possible things they can.

Did he need a larger ga. wire for the application? What was going on to make said amp draw that much current? What happens with those cheap fuse holders is that the connections between the wire-fuse holder-fuse are not good enough and high in resistance. Resistance creates heat as current passes through it, and the heat melts the fuse. That is a perfect example of why good wire/wire accessories is a must in car audio applications. CAUTION! POOR INSTALLATION MAY SHORT BOTH YOUR SYSTEM AND WALLET
