Stupid Subwoofer question

I have a newbie question for you seasoned vets.

Im a using DC as an example because its easy to remember the names

Lets say we have a level 4 subwoofer right,

What would be the difference between running a 10" and a 12" all same specs and powered by the same amp.

What would be the advantages and disadvantages?

Which one would be louder?

Any difference in the way they will hit bass?

Trying to decide what size i need. If the 10" will hit just as hard as the 12"'s and take less space then why not run them , right?

12" has more potential to be louder because of cone area. But it depends on the space you have available. If you sacrifice box quality and design to fit a larger sub, then output will suffer.

From an audible standpoint, you will most likely never hear a difference between the 10 and 12.

well the only difference would be that the 12 might be louder and the 12 moves more air than the 10

i may not be a seasoned vet but from previous knowledge the 12" will be louder becuase of the larger cone area so it will be deeper....

a 10 in its recommended box size vs a 12 in its recommended box size tuned to the same frequency off the same power the 12 will be louder. there are other situations where the 10 would be louder it all depends on the setup.

You really need to check the specs to get an idea. The resonant frequency of a 10 is a little higher than the 12 (using the example). So using the same box tuning for both will yield a slightly higher frequency response. Most likely it won't be noticible to your ear. It moves more air so the 12 will generally be "louder" on the same amp.

Your biggest issue will be space. If you have the space to do the 12 over the 10, then do it. Chances are, the 12 will also have better power handling than the 10.

Most of what ppl will answer about this is theory. You never know the facts until you try it. I vote 12.
