Howdy,

Is there an affordable DB meter around somewhere?

I looked but most ones I see only go to 130dB.

Thanks,

i believe he said affordable.. but yea a tl is the most accurate. audiocontrol mics are a bit cheaper but they can be between 3 and i've heard all the way up to 5 db off

Term Lab is affordable. It just depends on your budget. If you can afford $600, then its affordable.

Personally, I wouldnt use any other meter.

You don't necessarily need to max your system out for tuning. If you make a change to your system, it will show up at 126db even though your system may be capable of playing 146db.

Also, that little cheap Db Meter can help you figure your vehicle's resonant frequency.

Not necessarily.

At more intense SPL, tolerances are tighter. This is due to higher air speeds from reflected harmonics and increased interference, as well as power compression on the woofer cones.

Case in point, at testing in the 120-130dB level, most cars seat position does not matter.

At testing in the 145+ dB level, Seat position can mean up to 1 dB difference.

That looks like an old AudioControl unit. It uses a condensor mic that must be calibrated often. It reads as much as 7 dB higher than a term Lab and isnt consistant.
