Is there pro or cons on 3" vs 4" voice coils?

If I were shopping for some subs... is it better to get the larger voice coil?

Does larger voice coil mean more power handling?

Can some one break this down for me thank you :)

If u notice a lot of SQ drivers usually have huge voice coils. Some examples are some dynaudio equipment and morel. Not really sure what the size has to do with it, maybe better sensitivity or something... But usually spl subs with bigger voice coils can handle more power.

damn dude is yellin..

4" coil would be a higher power handling subwoofer depending on the layers of the coil and material and winding size and all that stuff vs the same in 3"

not true for RF's Power series woofers ;) 1000rms for a 4". last gen i think was 600rms.

power handling and cooling

the bigger the coil the longer it takes to heat up

some last Gen are 1000rms on a 4" Voice coil also.. Check my signature. RFR2212 & RFR2215 models were 1000rms 4" Voice coils.

So one of the Pro's that a 4" coil has over a 3" coil is it cools better?

bigger is not always better.

it depends on the driver your looking at, to me there are only a few drivers that actually need a 4" coil lvl 6 tsns shw GZ plutonium just to name a few

all of these coils have large windings and are meant to take power. not like mtx 9500s and rf t2s

3" Coils usually have less moving mass and yield better results for lower power or for burping where heat isn't a concern, if you want a high power sub for daily a 4" generally would be a better coils. Hence why the SMD uses a 4" coil.
