Does larger voice coil mean more power handling? Not really sure what the size has to do with it, maybe better sensitivity or something... But usually spl subs with bigger voice coils can handle more power. My Youtube Page. zfrerichs Posted March 9, 2010 Report Share Posted March 9, 2010 bigger is not always better. it depends on the driver your looking at, to me there are only a few drivers that actually need a 4" coil lvl 6 tsns shw GZ plutonium just to name a few all of these coils have large windings and are meant to take power. not like mtx 9500s and rf t2s Roseville, CA Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hence why the SMD uses a 4" coil.
