onebadmonte
Here are some random pics of my home theater. Here is a listing of my setup. TV: Sony XBR9 52" LCD Reciever: Sony STR-DE675 yada yada yada circa 2001 Video: PS3 & Toshiba HD-A3 HD-DVD player L&R: Hawthorne Audio 15" Silver Iris Co-ax Open Baffle Speakers Subs: 2 Ascendant Audio Avalanche 15" each in a 3.5ft^3 box tuned to 28Hz Sub Amp: Behringer Europower EP2500 aprox 2000 watts rms Sub EQ: Behringer DSP-1124 setup via Room EQ Wizard software Game unit: Wii I'll start off with the front stage. I wanted something that would achieve night club levels yet still crisp and clear. Since I had the subs I know that they wouldn't have to be able to reach deep, they would just have to have good mid-bass. I was open to anything, but I had a budget. I wanted something DIY, but I know nothing about crossovers. After browsing the forums I came across a review on Hawthorne Audio's 15 Silver Iris. These are made my Eminence for Hawthorne, so there is some pro-audio lineage going on here. Normally on an open baffle speaker the baffle has to be wide enough to separate the front wave from the rear wave. I went a different route. I propped the thing up by the magnet. Anywho, here are some pics. Enjoy. The driver on stand The back side Up close and personal with the cross over In position. Note, these pics were taken before my living room re-do. A pic of the old system. Dig the wood paneling. Let me know what you think. onebadmonte
thats def unigue mang. how do they sound having that cone area and just on them stands? any chance of a vid of it playing Thanks, I wanted something different without breaking the bank and didn't require mad fabrication skillz. They sound great. Crisp and clear. I am lacking a bit of mid-bass. Having speakers mounted like that makes the bass roll off really fast. A wide baffle would help restore some of the bass. I trying something a little different. I semi-tightly wrapped the basket with a towel. A sort of make-shift aperiodic enclosure. I gained a little mid-bass back. My big problem is the cross-over setting of the receiver. I'm thinking it somewhere at 90Hz. That kind of kills the mid-bass. I'm not sure my camera will make a good video of these in action. The rated x-max is 3mm. Stay tuned for some Avalanche build pics. I reuse old Jensen floor-stander cabinets as a box. Recycling at it's best. Hehe! onebadmonte
Today we begin retrofitting the Jensen CS-315 with an Ascendant Audio Avalanche 15" subwoofer for enhanced bass performance. Here we have a picture of the lame performer. Impressive 5/8" thick particle board construction Out with the old, in with the new. Dig that Chevy in the background. No, I wont help you move. The modification to the enclosure. Two 4" Aeroports 17" long. The cabinet is about 3.5ft^3, it tunes out to 28Hz. The finished product. Let me know what you think. STEvil
Cut the top off the towers and make a horn port facing forward with a baffle up top to mount the mid to Looks really nice though Quote MickyMcD - "Capable of making some serious trouser flapping volumes at where's-my-testicles frequencies, the Servo-Drives used to be fairly jaw dropping..." Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed. Neel
Your not having any phasing / cancellation issues with those drivers? When I saw open baffle goodness i was expecting maybe a dipole or something similar. Anyways check out this program called edge, i think you might find it interesting. http://www.tolvan.com/edge/ Quote Too Much Stuff to list . onebadmonte
Looks tight. What do you have powering the woofers? Behringer Europower EP2500. It's rated at 1200 watts X 2 @ 4 ohms. In reality it's more like 1000 watts X 2 @ 4 ohms. Quote Warhorse vs A Pair of SMDeez build Olds Cutlass Cierra IB build 2 Fi IB3 18s

Anyways check out this program called edge, i think you might find it interesting. http://www.tolvan.com/edge/ I can't tell. I do know it gets plenty loud and sounds good. Thanks for the software link. Looks cool but a little complicated for a simpleton such as myself.
