Just got done with my deadening, and purchased three different brands (Damp Pro, and two versions of Fat Mat), and some Peel and Seal to compare. I gave the Peel and Seal away without using any.

I think it takes closer to three layers of Peel and Seal to achieve an equivalent of one layer of Damp Pro. Not only is the adhesive thicker, but so is the foil.

I personally used one layer of Damp Pro B Stock over everything, doubling and tripling in trouble areas, like the trunk lid...and then used the Fat Mats to really get a lot of coverage overall, and save a little cash at the end of the build. Damp Pro is not coming off; Ever. And in turn the Fat Mat is almost bonded to the Damp.

I have indeed used Peel N seal and about 10 other mat type deadener products. I have enormous experience with just about anything you can think of in the car audio world, and being an engineer, I test the crap out of everything. But I dont have to explain, I am HHR Ed for bajeebus sake.

-Peel N Seal and similar products use a rubberized asphalt as a filler and a mild adhesive. The problem is that this material softens with heat. Also, its water/air proof structure traps small air bubbles underneath the mat when being applied. These pockets of air expand when heated, further pushing the mat away from the surface. Then the softened mat stretches and pulls away from the surface. Also, come winter, the rubberized asphalt dries and hardens, causing cracking as well as the adhesive drying out. So it will never stick back down.

Also, you need 2-3 layers to equal the same sound deadening rating of a thick, butyl based mat such as Second Skin Dampifier Pro, so price must be taken into account for multi layers.

Its good to let your viewers know of cheap alternatives, but let them know why its cheap, and what they can expect from it.

Nothing sucks harder then to waste money doing something twice. In this case not only does it suck very hard but is also a sticky mess to clean up

I live in Ocala, Florida and have peel and seal on my rear hatch. I checked the other day and it hurt to touch the metallic surface, but it is still sticking just fine. Keep in mind that i open the hatch frequently...
