Do sub amps sound different?

I just read something in a Zapco article where they claim 1ohm sounds muddy and 4ohms sounds better. I also hear that a/b sub amps have much better control of the woofer resulting in a better response.

Does anyone agree with this?

thats why stuff like zapco/audison/hertz/focal is soo expensive because they are better, sound better, more adjustability..just a all around better amp

from what ive heard the higher the impedance the better the sound quality but you sacrifice power in this instance

I also believe that a/b amps have a better response and better quality cause they seem to focus on powering mids and highs where as class d's are purely power to feed the subs

yeah I used to know a rich kid that had a couple of zapco amps, he was replacing a couple of orion amps, and his system did sound quite a bit better, for the record he was running focal all around. I deffinately like me some zapco amps

i believe the best way to answer your question is to explain the differences in the types of amplifiers. class a, class b, class AB, class d the most common. class a is more common with smaller linear amps, where efficiency is not its aim ie:the amount of inputted signal that is actually converted and used.

class b amps usually have 2 output devices which conduct alternatively (push and pull) exactly for 180* or half cycle, using half of the inputted signal.

class AB utilizes the 2 active elements more than half of the time in order to help reduce cross over distortions.

class d was meant for the most efficiency meaning as much as possible of the inputted signal is converted and used ie more power.
