resin hardener

Recommended Posts

Just got through with a last layup for the night myself.

Use a respirator that's for sure if you're worried about your health. 1% is correct, I just got a gallon of b440 from UScom that I'm mixing at 10 drops per oz. It's probably about 88 degrees outside with high humidity, but in the daytime here it gets at 100 easily. Usually right after I finish laying down the layer, I hit it with a heat gun just to get the resin hot and to jump start the reaction and I can have a layer hardening in 30 mins.

It's 2am here though, so I cant exactly run the air compressor to do any sanding on the glass, so It'll have to wait until tomorrow after work. :(

10 drops of hardener per ounce? I'm really doing this in the morning. I want to be sure not to use too much. One more question, is the hardener necessary, or does it just speed the process? I'm gonna use it, just a curious question.

yep hes right. and the hardener is necessary. it creates the chemical reaction that the resin needs to harden.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, I was supposed to do this a couple weeks ago, but humidity and rain have been a bitch. Can I still use resin in high humidty? Just add more hardener, right? I need to get this done so my baffle and beauty panels can get installed. It's supposed to be around 75 degrees and pretty humid saturday but no rain, how many drops per ounce of hardener should I go with?

It was humid here when my buddy resined his box, he followed the directions on the package and had no problems... Till his garage flooded...

the hotter it is the faster it will cure. you dont have to add more hardener, just the recomended amount

I'm the opposite, I prefer to mix hot myself and work with smaller amounts quickly, but have it dry/cure in 10-15min so I can continue working after a drink break.
