Alex K
Thanks guys, loving the input. I'm using Polk MM 6501's. 2 in each door. They will share the enclosure, I just made it big enough to house them. I don't want to port it. I was just wondering what the sound difference will be instead of the infinite baffle (Using all the airspace in the door) My doors leak and obviously they aren't air tight. If they sound like crap then I will just cut out the back of the pods. Just wondering if anybody has some input first hand? as long as its fastened down, you're good and theyll sound great. i wouldnt stress to much over it lol. Quote 2006 Nissan Z Track. JMZNeal
i've been told the foam xtc cups are crap but I have two pairs for my mids and I really can't tell a difference? Idk? I'm wanting to do the same thing with fiberglass. korey_hofer
for some reason, when i did the pods on my geo they had no midbass at all when they was sealed up but open into the doors it would sound awesome ied like to try a ported door pod but i dunno where to put the port this is how bose does some of there speakers and what knot so i dont think it will hurt anything hell my geos dash 3&1/2'' speakers have there own ported boxs lol would be a cool project tho they sound good with your doors open or with them free air in your door? skittlesRgood
as long as its fastened down, you're good and theyll sound great. i wouldnt stress to much over it lol. not true. i had my pods open and they would flex the door panel and make it slap against the pod. very annoying. then i made them sealed and if there is any air leaks at all, you hear it. i have also experimented with different size pods and it makes a big difference with midbass. i dont know why people here dont think the same enclosure basics of a sub box, go into the mids. build a shitty pod, you get a shitty sound. same as the subs. korey_hofer
angle size strength and how it's fastened to the door make a huge difference a basic guideline is to aim drivers side speaker at passengers headrest and passenger to drivers, that will get you close but you can fine tune it even more if you like to Quote previously known as wenn_du_weinst aka fucking internet coward supreme. moetpoppin
I have always wondered about whats best, what about like a sorta quarterwave or tline tuned for the higher frequencies? wouldnt that make it hella short compared to a tline for bass? A tline tuned at around 150 hz would be less than two feet, maybe im just crazy haha Quote TY Moet poppin', hoe hoppin', aint no stoppin' B.I.G. poppa, I'm a bad boy Party and Bullshit - The Notorious B.I.G. korey_hofer
loudest would probably be a 1/4 wave guide length or similar, best imo would be sealed enclosure for every driver (subs excluded) Quote previously known as wenn_du_weinst aka fucking internet coward supreme. fecupe2001
I´m not a big expert about mids, but in Venezuela you can find a lot of experts about it, we have th "open show" world champions and they always use ported for mids, i guess they sound better that way? i don´t really know, but just as a sub box, you would have to build a proper size ported for those specific mids so they can play louder than a sealed box i guess, once again, i don´t really have an own experience and besides that, they use those ported mid boxes for outside playing, maybe if they are for internal audio wouldn´t work that loud? monkeyleg
My last setup just had a MDF sheet over the door cover to screw in the speaker and the back of the speaker used the door frame, just like all stock speakers use, so infinite baffle. When I turned it up the mid and high frequencies would sound awesome but the bass would crackle, I'm guessing from over excursion or no damping effect. Even if they don't sound as loud in these sealed pods maybe they will deliver the bass without cracking? I'm not too worried about loudness since there will be so many of these speakers. Here's another pic http://s916.photobucket.com/albums/ad5/cz3chmonkey/?action=view¤t=august104.jpg There is a fleece layer and then a thick resin layer inside the enclosure. So this thing is sealed up good. I will screw the panel into the metal door frame, I don't want the speaker energy to be wasted on vibrating the door panel.
