CJ18 Posted September 21, 2010 Author Report Posted September 21, 2010 that makes absolutely NO SENSE....why not elaborate ive seen quite a few examples of drop in tests that just either kept increasing or decreasing in score. my friend Ric who works on the Geo Metro (DD Beast) had a powerbass sub in a box and used the same power back to back...hit a 149.x changed to a DD9515 152.x changed to a DDZ 154.x (something along those lines) and your saying its POINTLESS?? thats the difference between a win and a loss at a competition. you just gotta be the nay sayer and go against something for absolutely no reason Steve Footz had 2 DD Zs and did a direct swap and drop in test fresh out of the box with 2 DC Level 5s and automatically went up .5 db wheres the pointless in that... my friend Jerome is coming to pick up the BTL sometime soon...were gonna do a drop in test with his BTL and the one im giving him in my box just to see what she does (granted its a 1 ohm and my lvl 5 is a 1.4 ohm) we just wanna see the difference. so no there not pointless I agree with Chode on this one. Saying that a drop in test is pointless is absurd. No 2 Subs are the same and they will all perform differently under the same conditions. I feel that this is the only fair way to do a direct comparison between the LVL 5 and SMD. If I were to build 2 separate enclosures for each sub based on what that subs want for airspace, port area and tuning, now that would make this test pointless. I also want to say that this box is being built for DAILY driving and not to be a one note wonder. I am doing this test to see what the direct swap difference is for daily driving. TL numbers on music and peak SPL will be taken into account.

In fact I think its a perfect way to settle the other thread with the LVL5 vs SMD bashing. CJ18 was looking for the right woofer for his application. He will be doing the tests in HIS application which makes it a very valid test. So, unless you plan on building 15 different enclosures, and throwing the same amount of wattage over the RMS to each sub, its gonna be pointless... I mean if the RMS of the DC is 2000 watts, and your throwing 6,000 to it. And if the RMS is 3500 of the SMD then you need to throw 3x its RMS just like the DC, otherwise, it wont be fair and you'll have people crying like bitches about why their sub lost or didnt do as good... I personally think the shit between these 2 subs is fucking stupid. They are both BEASTS, and you'll never convince me that one is better than the other... very well said i can make a box and make ether sub "beat" each other depending on what sub i want to win its compairing apples and oranges both subs have differnt power handling like differnt size boxes and ports i thought a guy like chode have been in audio long engough to know this guess not or your fan boyness is not letting you see clearly anyways this just became the biggest troll thread ever troll it up its all pointless and in bad taste if people belive your bias ass test and think sub a is better then sub b cause you did a drop in test Have you ever had your woofers blown?

Probably with less power apples to oranges .... So the smd is the apple, and the level 5 is the oranges?
