just curious cj have you considered a cut through? mite help the smds load a lil better. id like to see clamped power and imped rise. plus it will be one thing you could check off your list as a possible issue if you there isnt a problem. imo the smd dont meter well look at smokeumtires his shit pounds hard but doesnt put up big numbers. im curious what the lvl5s do for you in a direct swap, i think they will be louder but will they sound as good as the smds? thats your decision. the answer is what do you want a take your breath away make your vision blurr syetem that you can play all day? or something that puts up big numbers. for me i want both. lol and im pretty close to having it. but it took 4 boxes and 6 months to get. so good look. your skills are there now its just finding the right combination. if car audio was easy everyone would be doing 155s with 1amp and 2tens.

I use the bed of my truck way too much. Plus I dont have the balls to cut a hole in my bed. I will get clamped power this weekend. I am going to be retesting the SMDs this weekend as well, I was having some issues with the subs popping during burps and come to find out it was being cause by my dumbass mistake of not tightening the nut on the power post off of my stock location alternator. I will be putting up the level 5 tests at 1500w per sub tonight. I am giving them a few days of break in before i start to pound on them, but so far they sound good off of just 1500w each.

I just want to say that I am not trying to get into any arguments on here with anyone. Most people on here have alot more experience doing this than I do and know a hell of alot more. I am greatful for yall guys opinions and ideas about how to make this build better. I am ALWAYS open to new ideas. BUT you have to approach it the right way and not just pop in and say "i wouldnt have done it that way" "I can make those subs do way better" "I dont like your enclosure alignment, it makes me cringe". How about trying a mature approach and saying "you know I have an idea that might work better for you(your idea goes here) maybe this will help you out. Instead of just being an ass and stating how you could do it better without saying why you dont like it. Just try taking a different approach and it will be accepted much better. No one likes to hear negative criticism about there work but if its approached the right way it can lead to positive results.

Well that ends my "rant", other than that, I think your doing a great job and like I've said in an earlier post on here your box building skills are outstanding.

Just went out and played with em a bit. I must say for only giving them 1500w un clamped power each they are quite impressive. Its not a fair test yet because the DCs just peaked at 51 hz where the SMDs are peaking at 40hz right now. Talking to Rusty he told me that the LVL 5s come out of the box with an fs of about 74 and once they break in come back down to about 33. I will give them some time to break in before i start pounding on them.

On another note I sat the TL Computer in my front seat mic was still on the dash while I was driving home and gave them 2k each and they sounded nice. They peaked at a 144.91 with the windows down at 37hz.

All burps have been done windows up on the dash. The SMDs and the DCs will both be re tested under better conditions once I get my new Mechman alt for my dual location. I will also be running the second alternator straight back to my rear batteries and using the adjustable voltage feature that was available to give me some more power. Some other changes that are going to be made are, I have my rear batteries grounded to the frame, I will be running grounds front to back. I will be changing to a 1 cube smaller box to help handle Extra power over RMS ratings. I am going to try smaller port area also. Lots of work but it should all pay off.

Please understand that with all of the crap that has been said in this thread about this vs that and why this is just a shit test, that I took your post out of context. how much port are and air spce you have now? the smaller box might help the lvl 5's with the power but the SMD's shouldn't need that extra help they need the air space to get moving so you can get more out of them
