just curious cj have you considered a cut through? mite help the smds load a lil better. id like to see clamped power and imped rise. plus it will be one thing you could check off your list as a possible issue if you there isnt a problem. imo the smd dont meter well look at smokeumtires his shit pounds hard but doesnt put up big numbers. im curious what the lvl5s do for you in a direct swap, i think they will be louder but will they sound as good as the smds? thats your decision. the answer is what do you want a take your breath away make your vision blurr syetem that you can play all day? or something that puts up big numbers. for me i want both. lol and im pretty close to having it. but it took 4 boxes and 6 months to get. so good look. your skills are there now its just finding the right combination. if car audio was easy everyone would be doing 155s with 1amp and 2tens.

we could all be doing that if we drove crx's & pandas =[.

Just got to say a few words here, havent read the entire thread though. But from what I`ve seen that box you made for the SMD`s looked too small and the port positioning was not ideal.

I had similar experience as you with my subs, I have 2 DD Z9518s and the first box I made for them was a shitty box (and I knew it would be, was too small and just not right). I fed them 10kw and BARELY broke 150! Threw the box away and made another one that I planned alot better and made some adjustments, and hit 154.5. Almost 5dB`s by just making another box.

And another thing is break in time, some subs just need some time loosening up. My previous subs (DD 1508) took a couple of months of abuse to loosen up and get loud.

Don`t give up on some badass subs just because you don`t get it right the first time, MDF is a whole lot cheaper than new subs, lol

ive posted i would do 7-8 cubes on another post and got FLAMED!!! curious why they would suggest 6cf on the site. is the fs high on these?

anyway i thought id ask opinions before i call.

I have tried the 7-8 and although it was the loudest on the meter it just didnt sound good to me. The box suggestions on AA's site are based on giving them RMS power. If you are going to over power the subs you want to put them into a smaller enclosure to help control the sub. Also the SMD was built to perform in a smaller enclosure. The fs on the SMD is 29.7.

how much port are and air spce you have now? the smaller box might help the lvl 5's with the power but the SMD's shouldn't need that extra help they need the air space to get moving so you can get more out of them

The box I am building now is 13.9 cuft before displacements with a 105 sqin port tuned about 28 hz. Before yall start bashing me about port size just wait until I get it installed and can see how it sounds. I am also firing the port into the driver back door.

You have to remember here that all subs are not created equal and each sub will like a different size enclosure. I am limited on how much airspace I can get and still keep my box under my back window and be able to comfortably lean my front seats back so I am in the small to mid range as far as airspace goes and just have to do the best I can with it.

Yep I just adjusted a few of the dimensions to fit it under the back window. I also changed the port some. I checked and double checked the port dimensions you sent me and even had 2 others check it for me and everyone came up witht he same 33hz. I adjusted it down to get to 28hz for now. I built the box with interchangable ports if I choose to do so I can drop down to 25 or up to 33.

Getting everything hooked up now and ill get some pics and maybe a few numbers if yall ask nice.

if you are also going for numbers why are you tuning to 28hz? atleast do 35 if you want decent numbers, 35hz sounds good all the way down to 24hz and up to 45hz...
