Cold Weather For Subs

Recommended Posts

cold weather does affect your subs. as the coils in your subs get cooler, the impedance starts to get lower. so therefore, the colder the weather, the lower your subs impedance is, and the more power you get from your amp. this is also the same reason lots of people wont play their system for a while before they compete at a show. when copper gets warm, its resistance starts to go up.

His original post was asking if cold weather affects how subs work. How aren't these videos related?

I also live in wisconsin and right around this time is when my voltage will go down a tad and the spiders of my subs and the cone will get really stiff over night. Also my amp gets cold but it shouldn't do any harm enless you have mosture in your car and somehow you get ice on it lol...

Simple solution. Let your subs warm up in the heat for 10-15 mins and your set :good:

Are we talking like the consequences of using stereo in extremely cold temperatures? Worst I've seen is my buddies magnet crack on our way to school while blasting on a below zero day. It went a few months after before it was bumped out of alignment and was junk. I'm assuming coil got hot fast while the magnet was still really cold and it cracked where the two lugs met, other than that cold doesn't really have too bad of affect. My voltage will run low when its really cold until my car warms up, maybe subs run a little groggy until soft parts loosen/warm up. Whenever I hop in my car on a below zero day i don't turn it up until the car is warm inside and then I ease into a lot of power.

It's all gone!

I'm in iowa, so pretty much same thing I was worring about.

so after reading this, I don't have to take them out? Even when it gets like -10?

nah, you shouldnt have to. keep the volume down. the coils will heat up with a little bit of power. then ease it up. should be good. ill be testing that this year i guess.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.
