on a 12v system....can u add a 16v batt?

Recommended Posts

So- simple question. 12v system. Can I add a 16v Battery at the amp location and not disrupt anything? Or will the battery (once run for a while) be drained and sit at 12v because the system only charges @ 12v?

I don't want to upgrade alts etc....don't need to. I do however want to add a battery to keep the voltage as close to optimal.

Nope. If you dont wanna do anything, run 12 volts.

you would need to either convert ur car to all 16v or just run a second alternator at 16 volt and then use that alternator to charge just the 16v battery. u cannot add a 16 volt batt to a 12v system.

x2

That is correct
