dugee81
Long story short: About 2-3 weeks ago I was not paying attention to volume level and turned my HU up about 5-6 notches past what I set my amps to max out at (before clipping). There was noticable distortion and my sub amp turned off. Ever since then my externally regulated alt has had a problem reaching its set 15 volts. Kind of like it needs to warm up (which it has never needed to do). Today I pop my hood to hear a hissing noise coming from my kinteik hc1400. 1. Is this battery shot? And 2. If so, is that why my alt is having difficulties reaching what I set it to? I am guessing this is also putting serious strain on the alt ? Thanks for any help! Jbabycsx
My yellow top does the same thing. My alt is putting out like it should though. 2000LaDe
if the battery released then its bad which in turn makes the alternator have to work harder which could possibly in the long run make it go bad.
Skullz
The hissing is the gas escaping from the battery causing the life to shorten more and more as it hisses, you might want to try another battery and see whats going on with the kinetik. MECHMAN
You are charging at too high of a voltage, that is the only thing that will cause a battery to gas and hiss. I've said it before a million times, BUT 15 volts is TOO HIGH FOR ANY AGM BATTERY and will ruin it. dugee81
Thank you all for your responses. I have a hc800 I guess I will throw under the hood until I can gather funds for a replacement. Oh and I turned down the voltage to 14.5, I hope my battery can last just a little longer Quote 200a alt. by Excessive Amperage hc800 under hood & 2 Deka 9a31 in rear 1/0awg + big 3 SAZ 3000D HDC3 18" @ 2 ohm
dugee81
So in regards towards my voltage question, could a bad battery cause the external regulator to act like this? I'm now starting to notice a slight bulge on the top of the battery and there is a tiny crack where the hissing and some fluid (?) Is coming from Quote 200a alt. by Excessive Amperage hc800 under hood & 2 Deka 9a31 in rear 1/0awg + big 3 SAZ 3000D HDC3 18" @ 2 ohm
