SnowDrifter
So as the title suggests... Is one amount of resistance more disireable than another for any reason? This is assuming that the power remains constant regardless of the resistance. So given that power is constant, is there a difference between the resistance of a given subwoofer / wiring configuration? I seem to remeber hearing somewhere that higher resistance is better because it pushes more voltage instead of higher amperage through the speaker, and is easier on the voice coil because of it. Can someone confirm / deny this? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
AMI CUSTOMS
In subs it doesn't matter, you select whatever voicecoil config you need to get XX amount of power from amplifier. PUNKYOU007
uhhh. The coil config that you want to run is entirely up to you. I mean if your amp is 1 ohm stable then most people would want there final load to be 1 ohm (giving them the most power)....so...depending on how many woofers you are running will depend on what coil you want. Great calc to play around with. now it doesnt show you everything but its probably more than enough for you at this point. Doethepaperboy "Bars of Pain" Doethepaperboy "Hero Remix" C. And current does produce heat, but for the most part unregulated amps that are wired down that low are usually for SPL meaning you only play a note for 10-15 sec even 30 sec max and then done. That short amount of time it isn't going to matter that much, or matter to the point of saying one is better then the other. moetpoppin
just helps you on the amp end of the set up 1 ohm rating is usually higher than the 4 ohm rating on the amp gives you more power, more wiring options when you wire it all together ty TY Moet poppin', hoe hoppin', aint no stoppin' B.I.G. poppa, I'm a bad boy Party and Bullshit - The Notorious B.I.G. skittlesRgood
lower ohm load gets you more power. higher ohm load gets you less THD. but no one cares about THD here. If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood. SnowDrifter
I'm new to the world of car audio... What is THD? And how can a lower ohm load give more power than a higher ohm load? I know that it is harder for an amp to push the same amount of current through a higher ohm load... But if two different amps are designed to give the same amount of rms power, albeit at different levels of resistance, are the both still different? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
AMI CUSTOMS
Ohms law homie Voltage = Current X resistance That is LAW and is always true. So if resistance goes down, current has to go up to keep the same voltage. How regulated amps work is they regulate the voltage to match the resistance so you get the same power at 1 ohm or 8 ohms. You see?
