Copper vs. copper coated aluminum

Recommended Posts

I am starting to plan a system redo/update. I went and picked up some 1/0 from a local shop. Only after getting home did I notice it is copper coated wire. How much difference is there current handling wise between this and copper? I'm just wondering before I go through the trouble of running this, if it would be worth my time and $$ to get pure copper.

CCA is rated to take about 250 amps of current, OFC is rated to take about 300 amps of current. If you're not going to be pulling that amount through the wire you will probably be fine, but if your're guna be running 200 amps or so I would say either get OFC or do 2 runs of CCA.

I plan on running one 2000 watt class D and one 360 watt 4-channel.

both are Soundstream the TX1.2000D and the XTA 360.4

you will be fine with the cca just keep the fuse at 250 amps, those amps should be fine with that power

2-10 inch hx2's rfd2110 getting close to 1200 watts rms

PWK enclosure-rear loading folded horn

1-mtx 81000d

1-SAX-100.4
