the sub should be just loud enough to blend with the midbass. it shouldnt punch you in the back. im not sure if it still works with a 2way front stage but you can try to give the mids a 180* phase shift. it should help make the bass sound like it comes in front of you and not behind.

i dont think you need to play with T/A after a speaker change but you will need to play with the EQ.

if you have a left and right independent eq then play a bunch of tones and eq to make each tone sound like its in the middle of the sound stage.

If I answered you in a well mannered, informative way, you asked a good question or had a good attitude. If I was an asshole, you asked a stupid question or you had a fucktard attitude... or I was in a bad mood.

EQ / balance should be set flat when tuning (speaker placement) ... system should blend with natural sound, not enhanced or changes by processing just to get the sound in the center of the stage ... just my suggestion ... :drink40:

I'm relatively new to the SQ side of car audio but there has been some things I have learned.

Swapping a set of speakers will in general make a significant difference right away. However, for SQ it will of course take some tuning. Before a swap the ideal suggestion is to decide what aspects you are trying to achieve. Sometimes putting effort into relocating/building the speaker locations may be more beneficial. Skittles can chime in here with what he has done. Staging height, width or depth are each tricky. To get a center without losing your width, to get the feeling of the sound at your eyes with placements in your feet. I believe that you should be able to achieve a decent SQ set up without going to a 3-way but, it may also be an option you may want to consider.

As for the subwoofer, its relative location should not draw your ears attention. However, its presence must be known. This really comes down to tuning and frequency choices. The blend between your mid-bass and sub-bass should be seemless and compliment each other. As if the mid-bass (which should be located in your front stage) should give the initial "ear" impact and the sub to carry out the "body" impact.

With a full active 701 you have a great control on your system obviously. The rear fill sound like you have a good control of keeping it where it needs to be. From the little I hear rear fill won't solidify your front stage but, correctly adjusted will help with ambience and realism. Personally, I haven't been that bold to try using rear fill as the front stage alone is a headache. I don't know if I was any help but, its my .02
