hdorre
At first I thought...meh...my o scope does that. After play time and fully understanding what its "seeing", I now know that my scope has it place, and so does this. I really like how you mentioned this! Do you care to share what the Distortion Detector "sees?" meade916
Update is I gotz mine.. Putting it threw its paces here at the shop. Pretty gangster piece. No real complaints yet. Besides tracks longer, and maybe a sticker on the back so you know what track is wut.. We will continue to beat it up today. Vids and gut pics and a full report will be coming up soon. It is a.must have for anyone in the audio realm, home, pro, or car. There is nothing else like it..period. Being able to "see" distortion is new to me. At first I thought...meh...my o scope does that. After play time and fully understanding what its "seeing", I now know that my scope has it place, and so does this. First impression.....wow, cool tool. thats a great mini review - ok ill send your $20 bills hush money now. hahah j/k ......im not sending these first 10 (actually 9) to people like Ray because JUST i like them. I have my reasons. Thanks so far bro. Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong! Ray
Im stupid in comparrison to tony D on the subject, but.... We get into harmonics, something some of you may know a little about. Say you are playing a 40hz tone, on a super clean source, you "should" only get 40hz out of it. Say its a crappy-ier source, or you are driving it into saturation, now you will begin picking up 2nd 3rd 4th order harmonics as the source ie:deck, amp, etc tries to give you what your asking of it...ie:..moar powwa. These "harmonics" are not in the 40hz tone, they are being introduced into the signal path...making it a non-clean signwave. Amplifiers are rated with this in mind.. Ie: thd. (total harmonic distortion) The distortion detector light triggers at 1% distortion. This is different from clipping, as you might not be over/under rail voltage but can still have harmonic distortion on the signal path. I have a test in mind... An a/b amp 100rms next to a "d" class amp 100rms. To see or "show" the distortion difference between the 2. Most people do not know that a signal can be unclipped but still distorted at the same time. My tests will help "show" this FACT. Stay tuned, lots in-store for this little black box. P.s. Hope that made sense. Hope that made sense. Very nice test, and this should in fact show up on the 'Distortion Detector' although said wave isnt clipping. My question is how is the end user supposed to know if they are in fact clipping or just sending a 'dirty' signal persay, and what can cause this distortion? A shady downloaded tone for testing, or the source itself? Edit: I just reread that part. So the things causing it or normally not the tone and instead the HU, amp, maybe mp3 player, etc. Could low quality RCAs play a roll in sending a non clean signal by chance? Let me know if all my assumptions are totally off. Edited June 6, 2011 by tonedeaf
Ray
Only for sq?...no.... As I also like my "decaffed" shit to sound clean also..lol Low quality rca ...hummmm Would have to be induced noise ......i dont know if this will pick that up.. But ill check for ya. Like I said, im stupid on this thing, its still very new to me. But trust me, I will be doing all sorts of tests with this thing. Thoughts to self..... "wonder if my farts sound distorted, or if its a "clean" tone..? Where to "probe".... Ugh.. Lulz on my part.
