loving how this is just about flawless at this point, im guessing after all 9 get theres( seeing as meade kept #0001 for himself) and if all get positive reveiws, im expecting full fledged production! im gunna guess august 11' as the selling point

Why are people saying it won't detect clipping, and then some people saying they will set their gains with it? Simple hypothetical question...I want to set a brand new amp up with a brand new sub, I don't care about distortion. Will the SMD tell me when I am clipping my amp?

yes, because when the signal clips it is also distorted.

But it can still be distorted, even if its not clipping.

distortion is bad just like clipping is. If you prefer a dirty ass, distorted signal going through your system and out to your speakers, this product isnt for you. Not everyone likes clean sound.

Are people really this hard-headed? It's easy.

Clean signal--->distortion--->clipping.

Clean is good. That's what you want. This will pick up DISTORTION. Some people don't care if their sound gets distorted. That's fine, your car, do what you want. Distortion=/=Clipping. A scope will ONLY show you when you're clipping. Distortion will occur BEFORE clipping will.

If you don't have a scope right now, then this DD-1 is (seems like, no personal experience lol) a fantastic way to save a few $$ and tune your system right. If you already have a scope, then chances are you're one of us guys who likes new toys, so there's no reason you shouldn't add this to your collection too.

Personally, I have a tpi440 that I use for MUCH more than scoping amps. I use it on a daily basis, using almost every feature it has. So the DD-1 won't replace it. However, I'll probably pick one up when I can fit it in the budget.

i dont understand the problem either. if your not going to use this. why even take the time to try and bash it. its a budget tool that does what most people need it to do. if its not what you want then go on ahead and use your 300 dollar oscope. stop trying keep others from buying something when it actually works and does a great job at it.

i dont know steve, or the others who designed this tool. but im most certainly positive they wouldnt try to sell a piece of equipment if it wasnt going to be useful.

not trying to sound like an ass. but if you dont plan on using it, keep your negative comments to yourself. especially if their tiny issues that your just using to bash the equipment.

it does mostly every function of an oscope for half the cost. for those who have just daily drivers and are not in competition environments. im not going to spend my hard earned cash for an oscope with 400 functions when ill only use a couple of them

I may get flamed for this, but I really do think that anyone that has a valid concern SHOULD voice it. If they're doubtful of this product's merits, then they should voice those concerns and if they are accurate, well, maybe the product shouldn't get bought. Just because I don't agree with everything someone says doesn't make their opinion (or factual statement) any less valid. And IMO, this IS the thread to voice those concerns.

I can see people getting vacations in the other thread since that is not the place to have voiced negative comments, but this thread isn't about ordering, its over the product.

if you have a concern, voice it, nobody said not to.....but my fingers hurt from EXPLAINING THE SAME THING 100 TIMES. The results posted here from EXPERIENCED INSTALLERS, who use scopes every day at work, speaks for itself.

The golden sentence...if it is true. That was my problem. I was not sure if distortion came before clipping. OBVIOUSLY "I" will not keep turning the gain while the distortion is pumping through just to find clipping. No need to get angry over how someone shoulnd't listen to "dirty" sound.

I will use MY MONEY without worry now, thank god you ship to Canada.
