It probably did, If you have $64 to your family right now why waste money on a expensive car and system? Would you rather live in your car or in a house? Hopefully your dad is smarter than you and doesn't blow the money on stuff that you don't need. Just wow. Sorry but is that a serious answer? Obviously all of the $40k isn't going to a system but something I've learned from a business class I took is that at your age if you invest $2k a year that by the time your 40 you will be a millionaire. Why not get a head start and drop $10-15k now and have that money pretty much guaranteed. I'm sure its exciting getting a huge check but just don't blow it all away. My business professor showed me the same thing. Easiest way to do it man, put in a stable long term mutual fund, by tge time you're 40 it will be worth a few mill if you put in 15-20k Hell, I would put 35k in. Forevrbumpn Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 I would definitely invest in something, maybe like 25 - 33% of that money should go to some savings account that you know you will not touch for years, let some interest build. Just try not to get greedy. Asking for a sound system, 2- 15s and a SAZ2500 is good to stay around there, and to find a useful source for the money I just had this same thing happen to me, I got a sum very close to that for my grandmothers death, and I'am down to $10k, and I just lost my job yesterday. I invested $10k in to my current work at home business, of speaker repair, and lighting, but where I slipped was lol. the blue ray players, LCD tvs, clothes, shoes, and a damn $4k ring for my girl I still haven't touched any car audio equipment, but plan on getting a 3500 at least myself, and build my own subs, and try and get something going no one else has sorry to hear about your mother I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

And yeah, it is my choice to drive the explorer, I had $25k to spend on a car when I turned 16 because my mom saved it for me, I spent $4k and saved the rest for college spending money, I could honestly care less about what kind of car I drive as long as it's an suv. So I don't know about you in college, but after my freshman year I'll have a nice apartment, all the beer I could ever want, and I'll still have money left over. Its up to you on how you spend your money, if Driving an escalade is a big accomplishment to you so be it.
